Niles Discovery Church

Niles Discovery Church United in God's love for everyone's journey ... no exceptions! Worship services - Sundays at 10:00 a.m. We gather for worship on Sundays at 10:00.

Aligned with both the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. Niles Discovery Church is a new church in the Niles neighborhood of Fremont. Niles Discovery Church has deep root in the Niles neighborhood, being formed through the merger of Niles Congregational Church (founded in 1889) and First Christian Church of Fremont (founded in 1960). We are a church that is the

ologically progressive, welcoming of all people (including le***an, gay, bisexual, and transgender people), and engaged in the community

As Niles Discovery Church continues to grow and serve our community and God, the church's webpage (www.nilesdiscoverychurch.org) will be regularly updated. We enjoy posting images and memes collected from lots of sources, but we typically don't know how to credit the originator of the work. If we post something that's yours, please say so in the comments (or, if you want us to take it down just let us know). We really do what to give credit where credit is due.

Fall approaches and election season is top of mind. Remember, civic engagement doesn't start or stop at the ballot box. True democracy is built every single day through the small, courageous choices we make to stand up for our neighbors, engage with our community, and protect our shared spaces.

To help you put those values into practice, Right To Be is offering a few democracy and poll-safety trainings this September. These free interactive sessions will equip you with practical strategies to take action.

The US aircraft carrier USS Lincoln has been at sea, without any land or port time, for over 270 days. During that time, it has had no decent replenishment of supplies and food, and until very recently there were no plans for redeployment back to home station. Sailors and Marines have been living with broken plumbing, lack of personal hygiene products and substandard rations. The mental health toll on those on board has been highly detrimental.

United Church of Christ national staff member the Rev. Stephen Boyd states plainly what the cause of this has been: “These conditions are the result of poor planning, a lack of respect for our Sailors and Marines, and incompetent leadership.” Read his full editorial at https://www.ucc.org/op-ed-the-uss-abraham-lincoln-whats-next/

Flash flooding of the Bhote Koshi River, triggered by a catastrophic glacier collapse in the Himalayan mountains, caused devastation along the Nepal/Tibet border. Thousands were forced from their homes as entire communities were washed away.

The scale of destruction is overwhelming:
> More than 1,250 lives lost.
> Nearly 5,000 people remain missing in Nepal and China.
> More than 12,000 people have been directly affected.
> The UN estimates that approximately 65,000 people need emergency water, sanitation and hygiene support.
