“Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. ”

Matthew 10:39

This week we find Jesus encouraging the disciples and sending them out. He tells them not to be afraid, even when things are difficult. He reminds them that God loves them, that they are precious in God’s sight.

Jesus also warns them that people will be divided because of Jesus’ message. He says families will turn against each other because of him. Why? Maybe it’s because standing on the side of the oppressed goes against the grain of society? Standing up makes you stand out? I think this is still true today. What do you think?

Food Bank - On the first Sunday of each month, we invite you to bring in food donations. The food bank is currently in need of the following items: canned pineapple, ravioli, flour, mayo, ketchup, tuna, instant mashed potatoes, tea, coffee, garbanzo beans, pinto beans, cannellini beans, great northern beans, grape jelly, and beef ramen.. Thank you!

Summer Food: This summer, once again we will be providing food for some of the students from Carroll Manor Elementary School. There will be two deliveries of food, one on July 9 and the other on August 4. We need help packing the food on July 7 and August 2, we need a few drivers to deliver the food on July 9 and August 4, and we welcome donations of money (please mark “Summer Food”) or food (pick up the list in the narthex). Have questions? Ask Lisa Carr.

2026 Community Table Dates - Mark your calendar for when ETLC will be preparing the evening meal: August 16, and November 22.

Spiritual Gifts Inventory - As we discern our calling as a congregation, we will be looking at our spiritual gifts. One approach is to do a “spiritual gifts inventory” to see where each of us has gifts. These are available printed in the church or by email for those joining online. Let Pastor Kim know if you would like to do this. If you find it hard to answer, bring your inventory and your questions and we will look at it together.

Got Questions? Join Pastor Kim in the gathering space or on zoom (using the worship link) at 9 am on Sundays. Bring your questions or come to hear other people’s questions. All are welcome!

REMINDER: Never send cash or gift cards in response to online, text, or phone requests. Pastor Kim will never reach out asking for gift cards or money by email, text, video message, or phone call - even if it might look like or sound like her. Don’t get scammed.

Have an event or other announcement for the weekly email? Please send a writeup to Susan at [email protected]. Announcements that are received by noon on Tuesday will be included in the following Sunday's announcements.

Prayer List - Need a name placed on the prayer list? If there is someone who you want us to include just on the current Sunday, you may write it on the prayer book on the podium currently in the front of the church near the gathering space door. If you have any questions about the prayer list and how it is determined or maintained, feel free to ask Pastor Kim.

2026 Church Council Members: The Executive Committee members of the church council are: Ruth Cramer, President; Angelee Mullins, Vice-President; Emily O'Hara, Secretary; MaryAnne Golling, Treasurer, and Lasse Syversen, Mission & Outreach Chairman. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact any one of the Council members.

“If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ”

Matthew 10:13

This week we find Jesus empowering the disciples and sending them out. He tells them to do all the things they have seen him do! And he sends them out with nothing extra beyond their faith. They will rely on the generosity of strangers for food and lodging.

Jesus also warns them that they are going out like sheep in the midst of wolves! He tells them that they will find themselves in difficult circumstances, but they are not to worry. God will give them words and strength. Does our life of faith ever feel like this? How can we better trust God to provide?

“Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Matthew 9:13

This week we find Jesus among the people: calling a tax collector, eating with sinners, and healing a woman and a dead girl. Jesus sees the people that others ignore or avoid. In fact, he not only sees them, but eats with them, invites them to join him, and he changes their lives.

Jesus still changes lives today. He sees each of us, even in our most vulnerable moments. He heals us, invites us to follow him, and joins us at the table. How has your life been changed by Jesus?
