In the final week of our series, “To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom,* we step back from the individual commands and consider “Two Paths: A Parable of Life with God.” Examinining Psalm 1 and Jesus’ words in Matthew 23 show us that God’s wisdom leads to a flourishing life with Him, while lawless self-rule leads away from the life He gives.

Sermon Points:
✨ The wise person listens to God, trusts Him, and builds a life on His ways.
✨ The lawless person rejects God’s wisdom and follows desire, self-rule, and destruction.
✨ The Ten Words show that God’s way forms love, faithfulness, justice, contentment, and life.
✨ Lawlessness forms idolatry, harm, betrayal, grasping, falsehood, and death.
✨ Jesus exposes false paths that look spiritual on the outside but keep people from entering the life of God’s kingdom.

📖 Bible 101 — Class 1 Recap

Bible 101 is officially underway! In our first class, Liminal Space: How Our Worldview Shapes the Way We Read, we began learning how to approach Scripture with greater understanding, confidence, and consideration. This course is designed to be a liminal space to move from “I’m not sure what this passage means” toward reading the Bible with stronger tools, greater awareness, and clearer insight.

In week 13 of our series, “To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom,” we listen to the tenth word: “You shall not covet.” We learn that coveting is not simply wanting something good; it is the restless, possessive craving for what belongs to someone else—the belief that their life, possessions, relationships, health, influence, or gifts would finally make us whole.

Sermon Points:
✨ The tenth word reaches beneath the outward sins named in the previous commands and addresses the desires of the heart.
✨ Coveting follows a destructive pattern: we see, desire, and take—allowing disordered craving to grow into theft, adultery, false witness, and violence.
✨ Coveting turns our neighbor into competition, making us unable to celebrate the good God has given them.
✨ Contentment is not passivity; it is trusting God’s wise provision, receiving His gifts with gratitude, and faithfully serving where He has placed us.
✨ Jesus is the true treasure coveting can never provide. In Him, we are freed from “if only” thinking and formed into people of contentment, generosity, and love.

🪞 What has my heart been saying “if only” about—another person’s possessions, relationships, health, opportunities, influence, or gifts?

🪞 What is one practice this week that can help me replace comparison with contentment: gratitude, celebration of someone else’s good, generosity, confession, or limiting sources of envy?

In Week 12 of our series, “To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom,” we listen to the eighth word: “You shall not steal.” This short command reminds us that our neighbor’s possessions matter because our neighbor’s life matters. God calls His people away from grasping and scarcity, and into trust, contentment, restitution, and open-handed generosity.

In Week 9 of our series “To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom,” we cross into the second tablet and listen to the sixth word: “You shall not murder.” We learn that God’s command is not a flat “all killing is the same,” but a wisdom word that forbids the unjust ending of an image bearer’s life and calls His people to become guardians of life from the heart—in our anger, our words, and our everyday choices.

Sermon Points:
✨The sixth word (“no ratsakh”) sits in the second tablet, moving us into love for neighbor—how we treat one another’s life, marriage, and property.
✨Scripture uses several “kill words”; ratsakh names wrongful killing—murder, revenge, and culpable negligence against an image bearer.
✨Ratsakh is so serious because it attacks God’s image, seizes God’s prerogative over life and death, and tears holes in the fabric of family and community.
✨Jesus takes the command inside to anger, contempt, and cutting words, exposing the “murder of the heart” that can live in any home, church, or comment section.
✨God not only forbids murder; He calls His people to guard and nourish life through reconciliation, blessing, and care for the vulnerable, following Christ, the murdered innocent and giver of life.

🔎Where do anger, contempt, or my words move toward “murder of the heart” instead of honoring the image of God in others?

🔎What is one concrete way I can guard and nourish someone’s life this week—through reconciliation, protection, or speaking blessing where I used to speak harm?

We are back after our break from the the 4th of July!

In Week 8 of our series “To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom,” we listen to the fourth word: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” We learn that God gives Sabbath as a weekly declaration of freedom—calling His people to rest from striving and to connect with Him and with one another, living as if He really is their Provider and Redeemer.

Deuteronomy 5:12–15

Sermon Points:
• The fourth word shows how time itself becomes a covenant sign—one day set apart that tells the truth about God and about us.
• “Remember” means more than “think about”; it means to actively keep, observe, and build life around a rhythm of six days of work and one day of holy rest.
• Sabbath is grounded in creation (God’s finished work and blessed rest) and in Exodus (freedom from slavery and worth beyond productivity).
• In a world of busyness and constant connection, Sabbath becomes a weekly practice of Rest & Connect: resting with God, resting from work, connecting with God, and connecting with others.
• Jesus fulfills and reclaims Sabbath as Lord of the Sabbath, inviting His followers into deeper rest in Him and into wise rhythms of work and rest shaped by grace, not legalism.

Weekly Reflection Rhythm:
Where am I living more like a slave than a son or daughter—driven by busyness, anxiety, or constant connection?

What is one concrete Sabbath step I can take this week to rest and connect—ceasing ordinary work for a time, turning toward God, and being present with the people He has given me?

“Lord, thank You for the gift of Sabbath. Teach me to rest in Your finished work, to trust You with my time, and to connect with You and others in unhurried ways that reflect the freedom You’ve given me.”

Last Sunday we reached Week 3 of our series **“To The Mountain: The Ten Words of Freedom”** with a message called **“The Ten Words.”**

We saw that the Ten Commandments are really Ten “Words” — covenant vows spoken by the God who has already brought His people out of the house of slavery. They’re not just a moral checklist, but the core promises that show what love for God and love for neighbor look like in real life.
