We invite you to join us in Quarterly Choral Evensong for the Faithful Departed beginning at 6:00 PM on Thursday 17 September.
This votive office of Choral Evensong is according to Divine Worship: Daily Office. The style makes use of Latin Gregorian chant and English choral polyphony which is quite unknown to many in the Catholic Church today.
Prayers for the repose of those who have died is our duty and a tremendous privilege granted us by the One who has “swallowed up death.” (Isaiah 25:8). Not only shall we dutifully pray for those who have died, but we shall also call to mind the charitable caution from our Catholic ancestors, “memento mori” (remember that you must die). They did not intend it as a philosophical meditation or morbid fascination, but a true act of daily repentance and detachment by realizing worldly distractions separate us from the hope of eternal life in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
You are most welcome to bring pictures of your beloved who have died to display during the Choral Evensong. We shall gather afterwards for a time of fellowship and refreshment.
