Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Tetelestai. It is finished. Those were Jesus’ last words before He died. They mean that all has been completed. So what is it that Jesus completed and finished? His purpose here on earth. Jesus was sent to bring about redemption for all the lost and sinful people of the world. Every single one of us has messed up, and we deserve to be forever separated from God and His holiness. Separated from the one who created us. BUT God, who loved us so much, made a way for us to be saved from that fate. His plan of redemption meant that He had to sacrifice His only son. Jesus completed the plan of redemption. This incredible act of love and sacrifice is the greatest gift that was ever given. And all we have to do is accept it and choose to follow God.
Come celebrate and thank God for His incredible gift tonight at our Good Friday service! We will meet at 6pm at our Central Campus.
