This summer, many St. Martin's students are deepening their academic and spiritual formation in different ways.

Our first Summer Spotlight is Madi Stiles, who is participating in the Arkansas Water Resource Center's Water Fellows Program. Madi is working on the Prairie Grove watershed project and will present her findings at the Arkansas Water Resources Center (AWRC) conference on July 28–30. Her core research question is how rural-to-suburban development alters dissolved greenhouse gas dynamics in streams, using a space-for-time substitution across a 5-site development gradient: watershed outlet, completed subdivision, in-progress subdivision, planned development (currently pasture), and a control site. She is thrilled to have been given such an amazing opportunity to learn new laboratory, field, and data analysis methods that will benefit her in a future career in water quality research.

We enjoyed having Bishop Harmon with us last week for communion, conversation, and the confirmation of three members of our community!

The Right Reverend John T.W. Harmon, Bishop of Arkansas visited St. Martin's Episcopal Center in Fayetteville. St. Martin's is the Episcopal campus ministry at the University of Arkansas.

It’s been a full and joyful Easter for St. Martin’s! At the Easter Vigil last night, Emma was baptized into the Body of Christ. Then today, we celebrated Easter at St. M’s and had some fellowship over dinner. The Easter joy continues on Tuesdays at 5:15!

We celebrated Maundy Thursday today with a Eucharist and the custom of "stripping of the altar," in which everything is cleared from the sanctuary, including the reserved Sacrament that is kept there. It is a stark reminder of the betrayal and desolation that Jesus faced during his Passion. We also used a pall (the stiffened piece of linen that covers the chalice) that is embroidered with symbols of the Passion.

Things will look much different when we gather on Easter Day at 5:30 to celebrate the Resurrection together; all members of the university community are invited to join us.
