March 29th sermon notes :
What Jesus Requires of His Church
Text: Revelation 2–3 (ESV)
We live in a time where people are asking, “What kind of church should we be?”
Some say:
A modern church
A growing church
An influential church
But the real question is…
What does Christ require?
The church does not belong to man—it belongs to Christ.
“I will build my church…” — Matthew 16:18
In Revelation 2–3, Jesus examines His church. He looks at:
✔ Doctrine
✔ Conduct
✔ Faithfulness
And His message is clear:
You can have truth… and still lose your love (Ephesus)
You can suffer… and still be faithful (Smyrna)
You can hold truth… and still compromise (Pergamum)
You can be loving… and still tolerate sin (Thyatira)
You can look alive… and still be dead (Sardis)
You can be small… and still be faithful (Philadelphia)
You can be comfortable… and become lukewarm (Laodicea)
The question is not: Which church was right?
The question is: Are we the church Christ approves?
Doctrine matters
Love matters
Purity matters
Faithfulness matters
Obedience matters
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” — Revelation 2:7
Let’s be the church that follows Christ, stands on His Word, and remains faithful.
