At First Baptist Church of Erwin, we believe following Jesus means learning to put others before ourselves. Humility isn't thinking less of ourselves. It's choosing to use whatever gifts, influence, or position God has given us to build others up rather than build ourselves up.

Paul reminds us to “do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). That's the kind of community we want to be—a church where we celebrate one another's gifts, make room for one another's voices, and use what God has given us to strengthen the people around us.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be sharing a series of posts that help tell the story of who we are and what we believe God is calling us to be as a church family.

We believe God gives spiritual gifts to every believer—not for personal recognition, but for the good of His people.

The Apostle Paul reminds us, *"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good"* (1 Corinthians 12:7). Every gift, every ability, and every calling is given by God so that together we can strengthen one another, serve our neighbors, and reflect the love of Christ.

Whether your gift is teaching, serving, encouraging, leading, giving, showing mercy, offering hospitality, or countless others, every gift matters. The church is at its best when each person faithfully uses what God has entrusted to them. Because every gift is from God, and every gift is meant for God's people.

On Sunday, September 13th, First Baptist is throwing open the doors for Bring a Friend to First — one Sunday set aside for the simple, powerful act of saying, "Come with me."

And this year, your invitation isn't a card or a flyer — it's a green bff pin. Pick yours up at the church, wear it all month, and when your friend asks about it, take it off and give it to them. That pin is their personal invitation — and their reminder that on September 13th, there's a seat saved next to yours.

First Baptist Church of Erwin believes God continues to call His people into ministry. And we believe the church should encourage every person to faithfully respond to that call.

Throughout Scripture, God called women and men alike to serve His purposes in remarkable ways. We recognize that faithful Christians and Baptist churches have reached different conclusions about women serving in ministry. But we believe the Holy Spirit calls and equips women and men alike for the work of God's Kingdom, and we joyfully affirm those whom God has called.

That's why we seek to be a church where women are encouraged to say YES to the vocation God has placed on their lives. We celebrate God's calling, and we want to help each person faithfully live it out for the good of the church and the glory of Christ.

Our Missions Servicenter (Room 110-B) has been transformed! 🎒🍎✏️

It is ready for the packing of supplies this week as we get ready to distribute nearly 150 backpacks with our partners at the Unicoi County School Department. If you’ve not yet given to this needful ministry, which helps our boys and girls start the year off right, there’s still time!
