Even Now, There Is Life

"And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you." - Genesis 45:5 (New King James Version (NKJV))

Naomi came back to Bethlehem broken. She had buried her husband and both of her sons in a foreign land. She told the people of her town to stop calling her Naomi, which means pleasant, and to call her Mara, which means bitter. In her own words, she had gone out full and come back empty.

Maybe you know that feeling. A season that stripped you down. A loss that left you wondering if anything good could still come from your story. Naomi could not see a future. But God was already at work in ways she could not yet recognize.

Ruth, her faithful daughter-in-law, walked into the fields of Boaz. And Boaz was not just any man. He was a kinsman Redeemer. What looked like a dead end was actually the beginning of a restoration that Naomi never could have arranged on her own.

God specializes in bringing life to situations that look finished. He does not need ideal circumstances to produce something beautiful. He just needs your willingness to keep walking forward, even when the path looks empty.

If you are in a season that feels barren right now, take heart. God sees what you cannot see. He is not limited by what has been lost. He is already working in the fields of your life, and the harvest may be closer than you think.

Is there an area of your life that you have quietly given up on, and what would it look like to let God into that space again?

Father, where I have lost hope, breathe life back into my faith. Remind me today that You are not finished with my story. Amen.

The Redeemer Who Qualifies

"I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." - Luke 3:16 (New King James Version (NKJV))

There is a moment in the book of Ruth that is easy to overlook. A sandal is removed and handed over to seal a legal agreement. It seems like a small detail, but it carries enormous weight. Under Old Testament law, only a close blood relative had the right to step in and redeem what a family had lost. Not just anyone could do it. The Redeemer had to qualify by blood.

When John the Baptist stood before the crowds, he made a striking statement. He said he was not worthy to unlatch the sandal of the One coming after him. John was not simply being humble. As the son of a priest, he understood the law deeply. To unlatch the sandal of the kinsman Redeemer was to claim the authority to take His place. John was declaring plainly that he did not share the blood, did not hold the right, and could not pay the price.

Only Jesus could.

He took on human nature. He shared our blood. And because He did, He had the authority to redeem everything we had lost. This is not just ancient history. It is personal. The same Jesus who qualified as your Redeemer is the One who stepped into your story on purpose.

You were not an afterthought. God had a plan for your life before you ever drew a breath. And the One who paid the ultimate price to redeem you is more than qualified to restore what has been lost in your life.

If Jesus is fully qualified to redeem every area of your life, what is stopping you from trusting Him with the part you have been holding back?

Lord, thank You for sending a Redeemer who was fully qualified to pay the price for everything I have lost. Help me to trust in Your authority over every area of my life today. Amen.

"It has to be a kinsman. Not anybody could go and redeem the land that was purchased by somebody else when they lost their land or took over the land. It has to be a kin."

You Cannot Make It Through Without the Holy Ghost

"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." - Matthew 3:11 (New King James Version (NKJV))

There is a reason some people walk through the fire and come out refined, while others feel consumed by it. The difference is not willpower. It is not positive thinking. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Think about it this way. If you hold your hand over a flame, the heat will burn you. But if you first soak your hand in water, the moisture protects you. The Holy Spirit is that living water. When you are full of His presence, the fire cannot destroy you. It can only purify you.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into a furnace heated seven times hotter than normal. They did not just survive. They walked around in it, and a fourth figure appeared with them in the flames. When they came out, they did not even smell like smoke. That is what the Holy Spirit does in the middle of your trial.

You do not have to white-knuckle your way through hard seasons. You do not have to survive on empty. Stay full. Keep praying. Keep worshiping. Let the rivers of living water keep flowing, because when the Holy Ghost is overflowing in your life, the fire has no power to consume you.

When trials hit, is your first response to press deeper into the Holy Spirit, or do you find yourself pulling back from the very thing that sustains you?

Holy Spirit, fill me to overflowing. I do not want to face the fire on empty. Let Your living water flow through me so that the trials of this life refine me rather than consume me. Amen.

"The Holy Ghost is the key to surviving the fire. You can't make it through the fire without being consumed, without the Holy Ghost."
