The Montwood Church of Christ

The Montwood Church of Christ As disciples of Jesus, we want to personally know the love of God, powerfully show it, and prayerfully go with it.

Can something good become a trap?

Not everything that draws our hearts away from God looks dangerous. Some things look good. They may even be good—which can make the deception that much harder to recognize.

This Sunday, we continue our American Idols series with “The Goodness Trap.”

Join us as we look at Philippians 3:1–8 and consider what is truly worth placing our confidence in.

The person who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. Jeremiah 17:7

What are you hungry for?

We spend a lot of our lives pursuing the things we think will satisfy us—and many of them are genuinely good things. But even the best things this world offers were never meant to take the place of the One who gives them.

This Sunday, join us for “Chef’s Kiss,” the first message in our new American Idols series, as we consider Jesus’ invitation to something far more satisfying.

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry.” — John 6:35

“Idolatry” can sound like something belonging to another place or another time. But Scripture’s warnings about idols were written for us, too.

What do we look to for security, happiness, identity, or satisfaction? What do we trust to give us what only God can?

“Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.” — 1 Corinthians 10:14

You probably don’t have a golden calf in your living room. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have idols.

We may not bow before statues, but it’s remarkably easy to place our trust in money, security, success, comfort, traditions—or any number of good things—and expect them to give us what only God can.

This Sunday, we begin American Idols, a new sermon series about the things that compete for our trust, our devotion, and ultimately our hearts.

We invite you to join us as we take an honest look at an ancient problem in a modern world.
