Who is your best friend? Aristotle notes that there are three types of friends: those of utility, pleasure, and virtue. In the Christian understanding, truly virtuous friendship continues into heaven because the two people have spurred each other on to holiness. Learn more about virtuous friends here:

The newly renovated Blessed Sacrament Chapel will reopen on Wednesday, June 24, the Nativity of St. John the Baptist - following the 7:30 am Mass (about 8 am). All are welcome to attend!

Beginning June 24, Adoration will be maintained as truly PERPETUAL, not reposed for any Mass as we did before. This creates new hours that are needing regular adorers assigned to them. Please prayerfully consider making this commitment and text or call Janet Barresi if you can sign up (405) 590-4797.

The parish church of Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy is now famous for what happened there on June 6, 1944: D-Day. Private John Steele of the 82nd Airborne parachuted into town, was injured by flak, and dangled from the pinnacle of the church.

He faked being dead for two whole hours, until the Germans took him prisoner. Later, he was able to escape and rejoin his unit.

Today, these events are commemorated by the "Parachute Memorial," which still dangles from the church steeple. It's a tribute to all the soldiers who fought to liberate Europe.

Let's pray today for all soldiers who have died in the defense of basic freedoms.

In the Old Testament, God commands that the Israelites harvest a "first fruit" every year and offer it to him. This means that the first food coming forth from the earth went to the Lord, not to the people.

This feast was designed to establish a greater trust in God - if you give over the first fruit to him, you need to trust that the rest of the harvest will be plentiful.

Today, we are encouraged to tithe, or give a tenth, to God and charitable organizations. St. John's family, do we give the first tenth we receive each month? Or do we give from our excess? Consider offering up that first fruit to God to establish greater trust in him!
