Edisto Island United Methodist Church

Edisto Island United Methodist Church Experience a community of faith grown from dreams to reality since 1987, where all are welcome!

Join us for worship service on Sundays at our NEW worship time 10:00 AM, with Pastor Len Ripley. Greetings and welcome to Edisto Island United Methodist Church (EIUMC), a warm and hospitable community situated in the serene and picturesque setting of Edisto Island. Our church boasts a long and storied legacy, tracing its roots back to the aspirations of Ernest Godwin and his spouse, Veda, who envi

sioned establishing a Methodist Church on the Island. Thanks to support of Reverend JR Jones and other dedicated individuals, their dream came to fruition.

Sometimes the first sign that you survived is finally being able to exhale.

Exodus 15 meets people beyond fear, where pressure gives way to relief. What carried you through deserves remembering.

Grace doesn’t avoid hard conversations. It changes how we have them.

Conflict has a way of following us around. Into the car. Across the dinner table. Through one more replay of what we should have said.

In Matthew 18:15–20, Jesus offers another way: go directly, speak gently, widen the circle when needed, and keep restoration—not winning—as the goal.

Pastor Len Ripley’s message this week is about the kind of courage it takes to tell the truth without trying to crush someone. It’s also about a grace stubborn enough to stay present when relationships get complicated.

That feels especially worth hearing in a world where avoiding, venting, posting, and writing people off can come so easily.

Watch Pastor Len’s full sermon on demand below. If there’s a difficult conversation sitting quietly in the back of your mind, this one may give you a different way to approach it.

Before you tell everyone, talk to the person.

Matthew 18:15–20 offers a quieter way through conflict: speak directly, listen honestly, and give repair a chance before disagreement becomes public spectacle. Pastor Len Ripley explores why healthy relationships require courage.

You were never meant to spend your whole life producing.

Psalm 149 pictures ordinary people singing, dancing, and gathering together. This Labor Day weekend, it reminds us that a full life also needs rest, creativity, connection, and joy.

Your worth was never meant to depend on how much you produce.

Exodus 12 follows people preparing to leave a system that valued their labor but denied their humanity. Work matters, but it should never own the worker.

Sometimes the storm isn’t around you. It’s the phone call that changes everything.

Retired SEC and NFL coach Kevin Steele filled in for Pastor Len Ripley this week, sharing a deeply personal message shaped by the loss of his older brother and his mother within six days.

In Matthew 14:24–31, Peter steps onto the water toward Jesus. He’s doing fine until the wind becomes bigger in his vision than the one he was walking toward.

Kevin knows what that feels like now.

This isn’t a message about pretending grief doesn’t hurt or acting like faith makes hard things easy. It’s about where we look when the waves are real, the loss is real, and we’re not sure how to take the next step.

If you’re carrying grief, stress, fear, or simply more than you know what to do with, this one is worth some quiet time.

Watch Kevin Steele’s full message on-demand now on our YouTube channel. 🎥

Some seasons do not give you solid ground.

Matthew 14 explores what it means to keep moving when fear rises and certainty disappears. Faith may not quiet every storm, but it can help us take the next step.

Hard seasons can make you forget who you are.

Isaiah 43 speaks to anyone who feels invisible, overwhelmed, or defined by what they are facing. The water may rise and the road may change, but your worth does not disappear.

You cannot move freely while carrying everything.

Hebrews 12 asks us to notice the habits, expectations, resentment, and pressure weighing us down—and what we might finally release. Letting go makes room to keep going.
