Pentecost (Duhovi)
S’ Praznikom! Blessed Feast!

Yesterday we celebrated the Great Feast of Pentecost (Duhovi), one of the most important feasts in the Orthodox Church.

Fifty days after Christ’s glorious Resurrection, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, fulfilling the Lord’s promise and empowering them to preach the Gospel to all nations. What began as a small group of disciples became the Church of Christ, filled with the grace, wisdom, and strength of the Holy Spirit.

For Orthodox Christians, Pentecost is often called the Birthday of the Church, as it marks the moment when the Apostles were sent forth to share the Good News with the world. It is also a celebration of the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and the living presence of God among His people.

The Holy Spirit continues to guide, strengthen, and sanctify the Church today. Through prayer, worship, and faithful living, we are called to open our hearts to His presence and to bear witness to Christ’s love in our families, communities, and daily lives.

May the grace of the Holy Spirit renew our faith, fill us with peace and joy, and draw us ever closer to Christ.

“Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God, who hast revealed the fishermen as most wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit…”

May God bless you and your families on this joyous feast.

Forty days after Easter, on a Thursday, our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven.

After His Resurrection, Christ appeared to His disciples for forty days — teaching them, eating with them, and showing them His wounds. Then, on the Mount of Olives, He blessed them and ascended into Heaven, and a cloud received Him as a sign of divine glory (Acts 1:9–12, Luke 24:50–53, Mark 16:19).

This was not His absence. This was His enthronement.

Christ now reigns in glorified flesh at the right hand of the Father.

The Ascension of the Lord is one of the Twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church and is always celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day after Pascha (Easter).

This year, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Feast on May 21, 2026. Western Churches celebrated it one week earlier, on May 14, because the two traditions use different calendars to calculate the date of Pascha. The Orthodox Church continues to follow the original Julian reckoning established at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, while Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches use the Gregorian Calendar introduced in 1582.

And as the angels told the disciples on the day of the Ascension:

“He will come again.”
