Opening Prayer

Responsive Call to Worship

We gather to celebrate and joyfully sing to our God!
Together, let us share our praises and thankfulness.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with praise.
You O God, are the Holy God always and forever!
You are the Eternal One from whom all things come.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with thanks.
O God, we are your children, created by and with your love.
Come, let us enter into this sacred space with joy and delight. Amen.

Hymn God of Grace and God of Glory #577

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Forgiving god, you know how we are. We say that we will take time to refresh our spirits and our souls and then we quickly crowd our lives with activities to the point of exhaustion. We turn to you for feeding and nurture, asking you to give us something to sustain us through our times. We even are willing to tell you what we have, but when we look closely, we discover that we bring so little to you. Take what we have, our gifts and our needs. Heal and forgive us when we boldly disobey your word. Remind us that you have given to us all that we need to serve you in this world. The world abounds with your miracles of love and hope. Open our eyes to see them and our hearts to know that these are from you and not of our own making. Heal and restore us to your everlasting love. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. AMEN.

Assurance of Pardon

Gloria Patri (Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost ; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.) (Sing Joyfully #620)

Passing the Peace
Peace be with you! And also with you!

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 116
I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!

Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the LORD: “Please, LORD, save me!”

How kind the LORD is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The LORD protects those of childlike faith;
I was facing death, and he saved me.

Let my soul be at rest again, for the LORD has been good to me.

He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.

And so, I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!

I believed in you, so I said, “I am deeply troubled, LORD.”
In my anxiety I cried out to you, “These people are all liars!”

What can I offer the LORD for all he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the LORD’s name for saving me.

Rejoice in the Holy One! God loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of God’s steadfast love.
God created the heavens and the earth. Praise God with loud shouts!
Rejoice in the Holy One! God loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of God’s steadfast love.
Let our voices ring and sing a new song. Let us turn toward the Creator in awe.
Rejoice in the Holy One! God loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of God’s steadfast love.
Happy are the people who seek God’s counsel, who seek God’s heart, and who seek God’s kingdom. Rejoice in the Holy One!

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Compassionate Christ, we yearn for that mysterious gift
of peace. We long for healing and wholeness, for peace and comfort. But the gift all too often seems elusive, or even absent. Touch our hearts and heal our weary souls.
Bless our wounds, that we may bless others in need of your love. Soothe our fears with courage, that we may be strong enough to answer your call. Raise us into new life with your miraculous grace, that we may be blessings of miraculous grace in your world. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 33
Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD;
it is fitting for the pure to praise him.

Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre;
make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.

Sing a new song of praise to him;
play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.

For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good;
the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.

The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created.
He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.

He assigned the sea its boundaries
and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.

For when he spoke, the world began!
It appeared at his command.

What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD,
whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.

Opening Prayer

Responsive Call to Worship

Holy God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you claim us as your beloved.
We will rejoice in how majestic your name is in all the earth.
Creator God, in whose image we are made, help us reflect your love.
We stand in awe of God who created us in love and loves us still.
Redeemer God. You reconcile all creation to yourself, draw us closer to you.
We rejoice that we have been called together.
Sanctifying God, sustain us with your love, guide us in your ways of mercy and peace.
Loving God, how majestic is your name in all the earth.

Hymn God That Madest Earth and Heaven #688

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)

Creator, we give thanks that creation does not end; it rests. In your created order, rest is often the time and space necessary for renewal. Transformation happens in rest. Too often, we adopt the pace of the world that adopts hurry as being normal and beneficial. Yet, we know, Holy God, that when you began the work of creation, it served to bring order out of chaos, and it was good. As we seek your goodness today, we confess that we live in chaotic times. We affirm that you have charged us to care for this creation and have made us like you. Use us then to bring order in a chaotic world and to use rest as a necessary step for transformation and renewal. Help us discern the balance of rest and work that will yield good fruit. Amen.

Passing the Peace

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 8
O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.

You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—

what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?

Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.

You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—

the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.

O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
