Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 149)

Let us sing to the Lord a new song! Let us praise his name with dancing and music making!

Praise the Lord! We bring you our praise on this day!

The Lord takes pleasure in us. We are his people!

We exult in his glory! Praise the Lord!

Hymn How Lovely, Lord, How Lovely #2042 (The Faith We Sing)

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)
Forgiving God, sometimes our memories get the best of us. We hold tightly to words and actions that have hurt and offended us. It is difficult for us to let go and allow you to heal us in the deepest parts of our soul. Forgive us, Lord, for not trusting that you do take pleasure in us and desire wholeness in all who follow you. We need your strength to loosen our grip, allowing you to take our hurts and inner torments and replace them with your healing presence. Amen.

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 119
Teach me your laws, O LORD; I will keep them to the end.

Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart.

Make me walk along the path of your commands,
for that is where my happiness is found.

Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!

Turn my eyes from worthless things,
and give me life through your word.

Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you.

Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your laws are good.

I long to obey your commandments!
Renew my life with your goodness.

Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 67)

Give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name!

Sing praises to him! Tell everyone about all the wonderful things he has done.

Rejoice! Everyone who seeks the Lord, rejoice!

We seek the lord and his presence continually.

Remember his strength and his miracles.

Praise the Lord. Alleluia!

Hymn To God Be the Glory # 98

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)
God of Mystery, we are constantly amazed by the depth and breadth of your love. Over and over again, you turn our expectations inside out and upside down. And still, we don’t understand the radical nature of your grace. We play by our own rules of justice, even when it means excluding those
we are called to love and defend. In our darkest moments,
we doubt if we are worthy of your trust. God, help us remember that you give us all the tools we need;
that through the solid foundation of your love, we find the strength to follow your call as true disciples of Jesus Christ.
Surprise us again, O God. Surprise us again. AMEN.

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 26
Declare me innocent, O LORD, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.

Put me on trial, LORD, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart. For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth.

I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites.
I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked.

I sing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.

Don’t let me suffer the fate of sinners. Don’t condemn me along with murderers. Their hands are dirty with evil schemes, and they constantly take bribes.

But I am not like that; I live with integrity. So, redeem me and show me mercy. Now I stand on solid ground,
and I will publicly praise the LORD.

Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 67)

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine upon us,

So that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Let the peoples praise You, O God;

Let all the peoples praise You!

May God bless us still,

May God bless us to the ends of the earth. Alleluia!

(The Faith We Sing)

*Unison Prayer of Confession (unison)
Caring God, you call us to be the body of Christ: to live in community, to care for one another, to use our different gifts.
Instead of working to sustain community, we follow our own desires. Instead of trusting in your care, we think we can do it alone. Forgive our neglect of others. Give us obedient spirits,
that we may care for one another, depend on your love,
and use our gifts for your gospel. Amen. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

Proclaiming the Word
Psalter: Psalm 124
What if the LORD had not been on our side?
Let all Israel repeat:

What if the LORD had not been on our side
when people attacked us?

They would have swallowed us alive
in their burning anger.

The waters would have engulfed us;
a torrent would have overwhelmed us.

Yes, the raging waters of their fury
would have overwhelmed our very lives.

Praise the LORD,
who did not let their teeth tear us apart!

We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap.
The trap is broken, and we are free!

Our help is from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
