St. Gregory the Great: Finding God in responsibility
Many people imagine that spiritual growth requires escaping the responsibilities of everyday life.
St. Gregory the Great reminds us otherwise.
He carried enormous responsibilities of leadership and service while continuing to seek God within them.
For anyone who leads, teaches, ministers, cares for family members, manages a workplace, or simply carries more responsibilities than they sometimes feel prepared for, his life raises an important question:
Can the demands of our lives become places where we encounter God?
Spiritual direction can help us notice the difference between responsibilities that are life-giving, responsibilities that are draining us, and invitations that may be asking for deeper discernment.
God is not only present when life becomes quiet.
God can meet us in the middle of the responsibility too.
Where might God be present in the responsibilities you are carrying today?
