Peninsula Delaware Annual Conference

Peninsula Delaware Annual Conference Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Peninsula-Delaware Conference office is located in Dover, Delaware.

The Peninsula-Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church is comprised of approximately 800 lay and clergy members representing 82,800 (487 churches) United Methodists from Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It is a part of the Philadelphia Area, which includes the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference headquartered in Valley Forge, PA. The Peninsula-Delaware Conference traces its roots

to the very beginning of the Methodist Movement in this area. Methodist lay “circuit riders,” providing an alternative to the increasingly unpopular state Church of England, emphasized “vital piety” and planted “societies” in nearly every town and crossroads on Delmarva, beginning in the mid 1700’s. These societies became the local congregations around which community life revolved. The United Methodist Church still exerts a powerful, positive influence in this area. True to its heritage of “warm hearts and helping hands,” United Methodists form the backbone for many of this area’s service organizations. From Delaware Hospice to Boy Scouting, from Peninsula United Methodist Homes, Inc. (the area’s leading provider of retirement care) to working as partners with government agencies to provide shelter for the homeless and our tireless efforts working with Habitat for Humanity helping potential first time home owners see lifelong dreams come true. The Conference also has its own ministries of outreach and invitation including the Howard Bailey Life Enrichment Program, a rites of passage program for youth, and the Wesley Foundation. The Foundation offers ministry to college students on the campuses of the Delaware State University (DE), Salisbury State University (MD), University of Delaware (DE), and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (MD). The Peninsula-Delaware Conference was the first conference in the denomination to merge its African-American and Anglo Conferences during the Civil Rights Era in 1965. The Conference has consistently been at the forefront in its efforts to improve race relations and has made the issue of inclusiveness a top priority. The United Methodist Church provides spiritual leadership to more than 11 million persons in a broad range of settings on four continents, including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia

Before we gather in Ocean City, let’s gather around the campfire.

IGNITE is about creating a place where young people can show up, be themselves, build meaningful friendships, and grow in faith together.

This fall’s IGNITE Campfires are a chance to start building that community before the big weekend arrives in January. ✨

Bring your youth group, invite a friend who’s never been to IGNITE, and spend an evening connecting with young people from other churches over camp activities, conversation, and, of course, s’mores. 🔥

What could worship look like if every generation had a meaningful role in shaping it? ❤️

The Intergenerational Worship CoLaboratory gives church teams the opportunity to find out. From September through April, participating congregations will move beyond ideas and begin experimenting with practical ways to make worship more engaging, collaborative, and inclusive of people at every age and stage of life.

The goal isn't to find one perfect model. It's to discover what authentic intergenerational worship can look like in your unique church community. 🙏

Bring your curiosity, creativity, and willingness to try something new. Together, we can create worship where children, youth, adults, and older adults aren't simply in the same room, but are learning, contributing, and growing in faith together.

Summer offers a unique opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and remember what grounds us in our faith. ❤️

Rooted in Christ: Love Boldly is a five-week worship series that invites congregations to journey together through the promises of our baptismal vows.

Centered in Ephesians, each week explores how God's love shapes the way we repent, seek justice, nurture one another, and embody Christ's love in the world. 🙏

Designed with flexibility in mind, the series can begin whenever it best fits your congregation's summer schedule. With worship resources, sermon support, music suggestions, prayers, graphics, and more, churches have everything they need to create a meaningful and unified worship experience.

How has your baptismal journey shaped the way you live out your faith?

Reading about the early church is one thing. Standing in the places where its story unfolded is something entirely different. ❤️

Imagine walking the roads where Paul traveled, visiting ancient cities where new believers gathered, and experiencing scripture in the landscapes that helped shape the growth of christianity.

These places are more than historical landmarks. They are reminders of the courage, faith, and commitment that carried the gospel across generations. 🙏

This sacred pilgrimage with Bishop Easterling offers an opportunity for worship, reflection, learning, and deeper connection to the biblical story. Along the way, participants will explore the places where Paul preached, encouraged early believers, and helped establish communities of faith whose impact is still felt today.

Whether you are clergy or laity, this journey invites you to see familiar scriptures through a new lens and deepen your understanding of the roots of our faith. 🙌
