Yesterday, Rev. Ogden traveled up to Mount Pleasant to participate in ordination and installation of the Rev. Noah Dunsmore at Zion Lutheran Church Mount Pleasant. It was a wonderful service, and an absolute honor to be there for Rev. Ogden as Rev. Dunsmore was a good and close friend since college and in seminary.

Please join us in praying for Rev. Dunsmore, his family, the parish, and his work there as their new associate pastor.

Rev. Ogden here on behalf of Family of God.

As we prepare to enter into summer fully in a few days, we at Family of God would like to put out a formal request that our partner churches that bring meals bring bottled water. Late spring has historically been a seasonal transition. With the temperatures rising, lately we have found ourselves running short on bottled water. That said, if you or your church is able to provide/bring bottled water it’d be a great blessing.

It often slips our mind as well. And sometimes we have to run to the local super market to buy water to ensure that we have any to provide during the time we’re open. We appreciate your continued support and trust that we, our parish, and efforts remain in your prayers.

The Lord’s richest blessings to you all, who as our Lord said, “If anyone thirsts, let him acome to Me and drink.”

Dear friends and supporters,

Family of God will be closed this week. We will reopen on Sunday May 31st for our typical service and a meal at 2:30pm.

We apologize for this inconvenience. It was a difficult decision, but due to short staffing and other logistical issues, we were unable to find a way to remain open this week. It was a tough call, and we understand the disappointment. We hope to resolve these concerns quickly.

For those in need of food or other basic needs, St. Stephen on Chamberlain and Lawndale will have community meal at 6pm on Wednesday.
Military Baptist, Messiah, and the Capuchin Service Center, as well as the Capuchin Soup Kitchen also provide community support. CHAG Detroit offers assistance with housing resources and the like. Additionally, Manna Community Meal has a soup kitchen and is located in the basement of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 1950 Trumbull.

We plan to resume normal hours starting the 31st of May.

A blessed Easter to all from Family of God. Today, on the Resurrection of Our Lord, we welcomed seven new members into our parish. We thank God for these faithful saints who have been received formally into fellowship and praise God for blessing us with such devoted Christians. It was especially a blessing today, as the ancient Church used to reserve holy baptism, first communion, and/or “confirmation” on either the Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday. So it was an incredible opportunity to continue this tradition in some small way. We were also able to get a picture of our parish to celebrate Easter and to wish you all a blessed Eastertide.

He has Risen! Alleluia.

Yesterday was Maundy Thursday. However, since Luke Clinic was scheduled to be at Family of God, we moved our service outside. We didn't let it stop us from worshiping all the more proudly and joyfully. As Holy Week comes to a close we remembered the night that Christ instituted His holy Supper of His Body and Blood. It was a pleasure to worship outside so that all in the neighborhood could see that we proudly preach Christ Crucified and worship and adore Him alone.
