A blessed Easter to all from Family of God. Today, on the Resurrection of Our Lord, we welcomed seven new members into our parish. We thank God for these faithful saints who have been received formally into fellowship and praise God for blessing us with such devoted Christians. It was especially a blessing today, as the ancient Church used to reserve holy baptism, first communion, and/or “confirmation” on either the Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday. So it was an incredible opportunity to continue this tradition in some small way. We were also able to get a picture of our parish to celebrate Easter and to wish you all a blessed Eastertide.

He has Risen! Alleluia.

Yesterday was Maundy Thursday. However, since Luke Clinic was scheduled to be at Family of God, we moved our service outside. We didn't let it stop us from worshiping all the more proudly and joyfully. As Holy Week comes to a close we remembered the night that Christ instituted His holy Supper of His Body and Blood. It was a pleasure to worship outside so that all in the neighborhood could see that we proudly preach Christ Crucified and worship and adore Him alone.

The other week, Rev. Ogden baptized Brandon and his sister Gabriella. Please continue to ray for the newest children of God’s family and they grow and learn about the faith. May the Lord bless these two little ones, and remind us not to prevent the little children from being brought to Christ, but instead pray for them and encourage them in the faith!

Thanks be to God for His faithfulness, the gift of holy baptism, and these two being faithful brought to the font! May the Christ the Crucified continue be boldly preached at Family of God and in Southwest Detroit!

Yesterday, Revs. Hill and Ogden attended the St. Michael’s Conference at Zion Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Detroit. Rev. Ogden even assisted as the chaplain to the bishop in the Divine Service. It was truly an honor, a blessing, and a joy to join our brother pastors in the Divine Service, receive God’s gift under from pastor Mark Braden, hear an excellent sermon from pastor David Petersen of Redeemer Fort Wayne, and listen to the guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Arthur Just.

On July 15th at St Stephen Lutheran Church we were overjoyed to have our newest associate pastor, Rev. Alexander Ogden ordained into the office of the Holy Ministry. It was a beautiful and humbling day. Thank you to St Stephen for hosting the ordination and Pan De Vida catering the reception afterwards. Our very own Pastor Hill wrote the sermon, Family of God’s former pastor, Rev. Cronkright delivered the sermon, Rev. Gapski assisted with the service and distributing communion, and Rev. Granado chanted the introit. Many other pastors, parishioners, and friends of Family of God also assisted with other aspects of the service, reception, and were in attendance. We are so thankful for everyone who helped and were able to attend.

Pastor Alexander’s installation will occur on August 3rd at Family of God at 3pm.

May God grant Pastor Alexander many years of faithful service to Family of God, St Stephen, and the people of Southwest.

To God alone be the glory!

During Covid, we really struggled to minister to children. They just didn’t come through our doors. This struggle continued as things returned back to "normal". Now, after prayer and planning nearly two years later, we began to see openings to reignite the children’s ministry here. Two separate efforts were initiated in recent weeks. On Monday’s, a Kid's Club (name inspired by our sister congregation St. Stephen in southwest Detroit) kicked of led by our pre-Sem student Ben. On the first day, five young kids attended and played sports and heard a devotion. Ben continues to see growth each week.

On Wednesdays, our sister Sue Hatcher began a Kid’s and Family hour, conducting Arts and Crafts as well a devotion. Three adults and four (different) children attended on the first day. We have seen as many as 10-15 in recent weeks!

We ask for your prayers that these efforts continue and grow, so that we can pour Jesus into the children in our neighborhood.
