We’re pretty quick to try to fix things.

Someone tells us they’re struggling and immediately we start looking for an answer.

Advice.

A solution.

Something encouraging to say.

Anything that might make the situation better.

But Scripture gives us something much simpler:

“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”

Sometimes loving somebody means celebrating without making their moment about you.

And sometimes it means sitting beside them when there isn’t a single thing you can say that will make it better.

No fixing.

No explaining.

No rushing them toward feeling differently.

Just being there.

Jesus didn’t call us to have an answer for everything another person experiences.

He called us to love people.

Laugh when they laugh.

Celebrate their wins.

Sit with them in the hard stuff.

Listen.

Care.

Stay.

Because sometimes the most meaningful thing you can give another person isn’t an answer.

It’s your presence.

You don’t have to fix someone’s moment to share it with them.

Not everybody who cares about you will always tell you what you want to hear.
Sometimes friendship looks like encouragement.
Sometimes it looks like celebrating with you.
Sometimes it’s sitting beside you when life gets heavy.
And sometimes...
it’s somebody caring enough to say:
“Hey, I think you’re wrong here.”
Scripture says:
“Iron sharpeneth iron...”
Sharpening involves contact.
A little friction.
Because good relationships aren't just about having people who agree with everything we do.
We need people who encourage the good in us and challenge the things that need to change.
People who can tell us the truth without tearing us down.
People who remind us who we’re trying to become when we start drifting.
And we need to be willing to do the same for them.
That kind of friendship isn't always comfortable.
But neither is sharpening.
Look at the people God has placed around you.
Don't just ask:
“Who supports me?”
Ask:
“Who helps me become better?”
And maybe even more importantly...
Am I that kind of person for somebody else?
Good people don’t just stand beside you. They make you better.

Some things are easy to give our best to.

The things people notice.

The things that get recognition.

The things where somebody might actually say, “Good job.”

But then there’s everything else.

The ordinary work.

The stuff nobody sees.

The responsibility you’ve done a hundred times.

The thing you could probably do halfway and nobody would ever know.

Scripture says:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

That changes the audience.

Because now excellence isn’t about impressing somebody.

It isn’t about getting credit.

It isn’t about proving you work harder than everybody else.

It’s simply saying:

If it’s worth doing, I’m going to do it well.

Not perfectly.

Not obsessively.

Just faithfully.

There will be plenty of things you do in this life that nobody ever congratulates you for.

Do them well anyway.

Because your standard doesn’t have to change depending on who happens to be watching.

Give your best even when nobody’s grading it.

Sometimes we get so focused on everything that needs our attention that we forget we’re also allowed to enjoy being alive.

There will always be something unfinished.

Something to worry about.

Something that needs fixing.

Something waiting for Monday.

But Scripture says:

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…”

There is value in joy.

Laughing until your stomach hurts.

Eating something good.

Going somewhere just because you enjoy it.

Sitting around a table with people you love.

Turning the music up.

Watching the sunset.

Doing something that accomplishes absolutely nothing except making you smile. 😂

Not every moment has to be productive to be valuable.

God didn’t create laughter by accident.

And enjoying something good doesn’t mean you’re ignoring the hard things in life.

Sometimes joy is exactly what helps us carry them.

So yes, handle your responsibilities.

Take life seriously when it needs to be taken seriously.

But somewhere in your Friday…

laugh a little too.

It’s okay to enjoy the life God gave you.

Sometimes strength gets confused with standing there and taking everything that comes at you.

Handle it yourself.

Push through.

Don’t let anybody know it’s getting heavy.

Just keep standing.

But Scripture gives us a different picture:

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

Notice the word:

RUNNETH.

There’s no shame in needing somewhere to run.

There’s no prize for carrying something alone that you could have brought to God.

Prayer isn’t your last resort after you’ve exhausted every other option.

God isn’t waiting for you to prove how much you can handle before you come to Him.

Sometimes strength looks like standing.

Sometimes it looks like fighting.

And sometimes…

strength knows where to run.

Whatever today brings, you don’t have to face it exposed and alone.

There is still refuge in Him.

You don’t have to stand exposed in every storm.

Not everything you do gets noticed.

Nobody applauds every sacrifice.

Nobody sees every time you choose patience.

Every time you help somebody quietly.

Every time you keep going when you’re tired.

Every prayer you pray for someone who may never know you prayed it.

Every time you do the right thing when it would’ve been easier not to.

And sometimes, if we’re being real, it can make you wonder:

Does any of this even matter?

Hebrews says:

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love…”

People might miss it.

They might forget it.

They might never even know about it.

God doesn’t.

That doesn’t mean we do good things hoping God keeps a scoreboard and eventually owes us something.

It means faithfulness doesn’t become meaningless simply because nobody noticed.

Some of the most important things you’ll ever do may happen without an audience.

So keep loving people.

Keep serving.

Keep doing what’s right.

Keep being faithful with what God has put in your hands.

You don’t need everybody to see it for it to matter.

Unnoticed doesn’t mean unseen.

We make plans.

And there’s nothing wrong with that.

We look ahead, make decisions, set goals, and try to figure out where we’re going.

Then sometimes…

the plan changes.

The opportunity doesn’t happen.

The timeline moves.

Something you thought was certain suddenly isn’t.

A door closes.

Something completely unexpected shows up.

And our first reaction can be:

Well…now what?

Proverbs says:

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

There’s room in that verse for both.

We plan.

God directs.

Sometimes His direction follows the route we expected.

Sometimes it doesn’t.

That doesn’t mean every inconvenience is some secret message from God.

But it does mean we don’t have to panic every time life takes an unexpected turn.

Make wise plans.

Pray about them.

Move forward with what you know.

And stay willing to let God redirect you when necessary.

Because sometimes the road you planned…

isn’t the road that gets you where you needed to go.

A changed plan isn’t always a wrong direction.

Sometimes yesterday follows us into today.

Something we said.

Something we did.

Something we should’ve done differently.

A bad decision.

A rough day.

A moment we’d gladly rewind and handle another way.

And before the new day even gets started, we’re already carrying the weight of the old one.

But Scripture says His compassions:

“…are new every morning.”

New.

Not leftovers.

Not whatever mercy remained after yesterday.

New mercy for a new day.

That doesn’t mean yesterday doesn’t matter.

If something needs fixed, fix it.

If you owe an apology, give it.

If you need to learn from something, learn.

But once you’ve brought it to God, don’t spend today endlessly punishing yourself for yesterday.

God gave you another morning.

Another opportunity to choose differently.

Another opportunity to grow.

Another opportunity to do some good.

Yesterday may have taught you something.

But it doesn’t own today.

Yesterday doesn’t get to spend today’s mercy.
