Hey everyone! This is a little note from Taylor Roland - Composer on some things from the past few days!
I wanted to share a few things that have been happening around Sunnylane lately because my heart is just full, and I think you’ll love hearing this.
This past Sunday, our youth group was something else! We had a huge crowd of our own kids and kids from both the Del City High School and Middle School bands come out. We ate together, played games, laughed our heads off, and started watching The Sound of Music (we’re actually doing a Bible study on it once we finish the movie). It was just one of those grand times of connection. You can really tell these kids—some from church, some from the band program, and a few totally new faces—are finding a true home here. They keep coming back, and it’s just thrilling to watch.
Then, earlier today, I was working with the Del City Middle School Band, and a student walked up to me. He said he had attended a military funeral at Sunnylane on Saturday and loved everything about it—especially the pipe organ! Well, he loved everything except the gun salute outside, which he admitted scared him a lot! But even with that big surprise, he looked at me and said he wanted to start coming to our second service at 11:00 AM. So, of course, I told him all about it and mentioned how much he’d fit right into our youth group.
While we were talking, another kid in the clarinet section was listening in. He heard his friend getting so excited and chimed in, saying, "I want to come see!" and decided right then and there that he’s coming with him this Sunday!
That right there is what it’s all about. Excitement is contagious. When people come through our doors—whether it’s for a service, youth group, or through the Del City Creative Arts Institute—they keep telling us the same thing: they feel a real connection. We’ve even had families join our church family (and even our church orchestra!) simply because they fell in love with Sunnylane while attending the Institute.
WE are stepping into a bright new era together!!!
And I am so grateful to be on this journey with you all.
See you on Sunday!
