"And he shall be like a tree planted by the waterside, that will bring forth his fruit in due season, His leaf also shall not wither."

Think about this image from the psalmist for a moment.

A tree planted beside a stream doesn't depend entirely upon the weather. Even when the rains are scarce, its roots draw nourishment from the stream. The tree may experience drought. It may endure storms.

But it remains rooted.

And that is what the psalmist tells us about the righteous person. His life is not free from difficulty, but it is sustained by something greater than his circumstances. His roots run deep into the goodness and faithfulness of God.

When we pray that God would grant us His peace, we are not asking him to guarantee that we will never experience hardship. We are asking that, whatever our circumstances, our lives might be rooted in Him. Because the peace of God is not dependent upon the absence of storms.

It comes from knowing the One who governs both heaven and earth.

Blessed be His name. Amen.

Are you switching out your closets for the cooler weather months? Don't forget about our drop-off shed for St. Pauly's!

If you don't know...We have a St. Pauly Textile shed that was set up near the Parish Hall parking lot. We have partnered with St. Pauly Textile (www.stpaulytextile.com/about-us) to collect items for those in need.

Items can be dropped off in tied bags and then St. Pauly will collect, sort, and send items to wherever they are needed.

**Please make note of what items are needed vs. not needed. Picture in comments!**

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; therefore I can lack nothing.

He shall feed me in green pastures and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.

He shall refresh my soul and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness for his Name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.

You shall prepare a table before me, in the presence of those who trouble me; you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.

Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

This verse is the great concern of the parable (Matthew 21:33-44).

Fruit. God desires fruit. God desires his people to bear fruit. This is found throughout scripture.

The Christian life is meant to produce something.

The Church is meant to produce something. Not simply activity, survival, or maintaining institutions.

Fruit.
Lives changed by the grace of God. Sinners brought to repentance. Children raised in the faith. The lonely brought into fellowship. The suffering cared for. Christians growing in holiness.

People learning to pray, discovering Scripture, coming to the waters of Baptism, kneeling at the altar to receive Christ, learning to forgive and to love one another. People who once stood outside the life of the church becoming brothers and sisters within it.

This is fruit.

To God be the glory. Amen!
