St. Hedwig Cemetery

St. Hedwig Cemetery Founded in 1924, St. Hedwig Cemetery & Mausoleum, Dearborn Heights, has served Catholic families in southeastern Michigan for more than 100 years.

Our sacred grounds are operated by the Conventual Franciscans of Saint Bonaventure Province. Although our office hours are M-F 8:30am-4:00pm & Sat. 8:30am-1:00pm, our sacred grounds open 365 days per year at 8:00am. For the safety of our visiting families, closing time varies by season and is typically around dusk. Our office is also closed all federal holidays, and most church holidays. REMEMBER:

The greatest gift you can give your loved ones is the gift of pre-arranging your final wishes. Ask us how we can help!

What a truly amazing and moving Memorial Day Mass and ceremony we had here at St. Hedwig. It was a full house, and the good Lord blessed us with perfect weather. A very special thanks to Father Paul, Fr. Hans and Fr. Boniface from the Conventual Franciscans Midwest USA for celebrating Mass and allowing us to start the day in the real presence of our Lord.
Thank you, also, to Ed Kempisty from the Carl E. Stitt American Legion Post 232 for coordinating the entire event, which was flawless.
Laura DeRoo, a Gold Star Mother from American Gold Star Mothers - Michigan Division gave a moving and very appropriate talk about the realities of war, and the losses felt by the family members of our fallen soldiers. It was one of the finest Memorial Day speeches we have ever had.
We were also blessed to have Dearborn Heights Government mayor Mo Baydoun join us and deliver a heartfelt message of appreciation for our military sisters and brothers.
The day was filled with stunning music by Matt Simpson of Church of the Divine Child and his God-given talent was heard throughout the cemetery! Last, and most certainly not least, a very grateful thank you to Boy Scout Troop 1241 for braving the elements this past Saturday in preparation for our event. Their efforts truly transformed the cemetery into a sea of flags, a sight to behold.

Dear Friends and Families of St. Hedwig Cemetery,

On behalf of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of St. Bonaventure Province, we offer our heartfelt and prayerful greetings to you this Memorial Day season.

As stewards of St. Hedwig Cemetery, we are deeply privileged to care for the resting place of your loved ones. Each name engraved in this sacred ground is known and cherished by God, and each life is remembered as part of our Franciscan family. This is holy ground.

Your presence, your prayers, and your remembrance honor both those who have gone before us and the God who promises resurrection and new life.

Memorial Day invites us to pause in a special way to honor those who laid down their lives in military service to our nation. In their sacrifice, we glimpse the love Christ spoke of when he said, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Just as the cross was not the end of Christ’s story, we trust that the deaths of those who served are not the final word. In faith, we believe they have passed through sacrifice into the fullness of eternal life.

We offer this blessing for you, your families, and all the faithful departed entrusted to our care:
Loving God, Father of mercies, we thank You for the lives of those who rest in this sacred place, especially those who laid down their lives in defense of others. United to the sacrifice of Your Son on the cross, may their deaths bear fruit in eternal life. Console those who grieve with the hope of the resurrection and strengthen us to live worthy of the love of those who came before us, until the day we are united with them in Your Kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please know that you and your departed loved ones are remembered each day in our Mass and prayers. May this Memorial Day bring you peace, comfort, and renewed hope.
Peace and All Good.

Please don't forget to join us at our Annual Memorial Day Mass at St. Hedwig's just outside the main office at 10:00AM on Memorial Day. Visit our Events page for more information. We look forward to seeing you here.

A Message for Mother’s Day
From the Conventual Franciscan Friars of St. Bonaventure Province

The friars of St. Bonaventure Province extend our wishes for a blessed and happy Mother’s Day to all mothers who labor unceasingly so their children may gain eternal joy in Heaven.
On this Mother’s Day, may we lift our prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Heavenly Mother, asking her to intercede on behalf of all mothers, that they may be blessed with the grace, wisdom, and strength to continue their sacred vocation of love.

For those mothers who have passed into our Father’s loving embrace, grant them eternal peace and joy in His presence. In the Catholic faith, we hold fast to the hope that death is not the end, but a doorway into eternal life with God. Our mothers, who once held us in their arms, are now held in the embrace of the Father’s infinite love.
We remember that Mary, the mother of Jesus, also knew the pain of separation from her Son, yet she trusted in God’s promise of resurrection. In the same way, we entrust our own mothers to the mercy of Christ, believing that they now share in the joy of His Kingdom.
May we find comfort in knowing that the bond between a mother and child is never broken, rather it is transformed. In God’s time, we will be reunited, and every tear will be wiped away. Until then, we carry their love in our hearts, living out the virtues they taught us, and trusting in the promise of eternal life.
