Thursday, June 18
Please read Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26
The best part of elementary school was Show and Tell. We got to bring our favorite toys and then talk about them! Man was that ever fun. No one ever had a toy that they didn’t share. No one ever had a toy that people didn’t like. We all loved and celebrated the fact that even though our toys were different, they were still fun. Jesus was a walking show and tell. He came for those with no hope for the future and he stood before strangers and told them, “Look at me! This is what God can do!” And the people rejoiced. Because it’s fun to see what God does in a person’s life. When we rejoice together God transforms us into something new. Today, pledge to start a sentence with someone with the words, “Look at me! This is what God can do!”

Wednesday, June 17
Please read Romans 4:13-25
Have you ever told someone to “Do what I say, not what I do?” Sorta awkward isn’t it? We all want to pontificate about how people should behave and act. But sometimes we get caught up in the same behaviors we’re trying to condemn. And, trust me, it’s worse when you’re a preacher. We all have a past we’d like to keep hidden, but sometimes, getting our past out in front is exactly what we need to do. The sins of the past have made us into the saints of today. Paul had a reputation. A bad one. He knew this. He didn't want the past to distract away from the message of grace he was trying to make, so he got it all out and then moved on. Today, think about the sins of your past and how God has changed you over the years.

Tuesday, June 16
Please read Psalm 33:1-12
There are two schools of thought when it comes to learning something. You are either taught how to do something or you learn it by doing. By lecture or by hands-on. I would go out on a limb here and say that Jesus never meant for Christianity to be taught by lecture alone. You can’t know what it means to show grace to the least and the lost by listening to a pastor’s sermon. It’s when you go and lift someone out of the situation they’re in that you truly learn what transformation is all about. You can’t learn about grace from a textbook. You can only learn by feeling the Holy Spirit and being transformed by grace! Today, remember a time in which you had hands-on Christianity and how you felt.

Monday, June 15
Please read Genesis 12:1-9
The Israelites literally believed that God lived in the Ark of the Covenant. God in a box. Isn’t it great that we don’t put God in a box anymore? (Yes. Sarcasm. Sorry.) We tend to think of God as a genie in a lamp and should only come out when we want to make a wish. Or as a keepsake we can put on our mantle and show others when a special occasion comes up. We’re still putting God in our own little boxes. Today, resolve to not put God in a box. But instead use today to show everyone what it means to believe in a great big God.

Psalm 5:3

The Lord of all Creation. You tell me to be in constant prayer. To pray without ceasing and to pray in all things. Even though I try, there are sometimes moments of urgency in my voice. When life becomes too hard and problems too tough. During these times, I can’t wait to go to you for help. Just as David did when he said, “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.” So today I lift my cares and concerns to you. I watch and wait. I know Lord that you will answer my prayers. I know that you will help me in times of sorrow. I know that you are my strength and my portion. But sometimes waiting is hard. Sometimes it’s the hardest part of all. So today I ask that you will give me patience. Give me the strength to wait and the eyes to see the miracles of the prayers you answer. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.

Please read Matthew 28:16-20

Whether we laugh or whether we cry. Whether we sing or whether we mourn our supplications should be given to God. Jesus established the Church as a way for us to come together and sometimes sing and sometimes cry but at all times offer our lives to God. Lifting up our voices in song is one way in which we submit ourselves to God’s authority in our lives. By singing we release the joy we have inside and give thanks for the blessings we have. No matter if you’re a traditional or contemporary worshiper, there’s a song you know by heart. Today, during your time of prayer sing that song. Sing loudly and with joy because today you sing to our sovereign God.

Please read 2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Can you imagine yourself without faith in God? If you had never heard about the forgiveness offered through Jesus who could you have prayed to on those restless nights? If you didn’t have the love of God who could have been your strength during those times of need? God has made us into better, more loving people. If it wasn’t for God, most of us would say we would be more miserable. If God has done that for you, then imagine those in the world who do not have God. Where can they go for guidance without scripture? Who can they talk to about problems without the Church? What can make them do things they never dreamed possible without the Holy Spirit? Maybe today would be a good day to say a prayer for someone who doesn’t know God.
