Youth Sunday Service & Blessing of the Backpacks!

What a special way to begin a new school year! We loved having our youth take part in the service and coming together as a church family to pray over our students, teachers, staff, and their backpacks.

May God guide, protect, and bless them throughout the school year ahead!

Friday - July 31
Psalms 6:2-3
Thank you so much for travelling with me through the daily devotionals. It has meant so much to me to hear from you and to grow closer to God. I want to end my time with you the way we began. With a prayer.
Master of my Salvation. I hurt O Lord. I hurt. Sometimes I have physical pains that I feel in my very bones. As David lamented, “Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are shaking with terror. My soul also is struck with terror, while you, O Lord—how long?” Sometimes my pains are emotional and quite often my hurts can’t be seen but my heart weeps spiritually. When I hurt, I want to know when the hurting will stop. When my life will return back to normal again. I lift up to you today all of my hurts. My body gets more frail with each passing year. My emotions that cry out because of loss and my spirits that look at this world through tear-filled eyes. Thank you for the strength you’ve given me through fellowship with your church and thank you for your son Jesus in whose name I pray. Amen.

Thursday - July 30
Please read Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
The other week, someone made me really mad. This week, we laughed and had a good time together. Last month I couldn’t stand to be around a friend of mine. But this month, I called to ask how he’s been because I’ve missed him. Too often in our relationships, we are fleeting. We love one day, want to be apart the next. We laugh with each other and then we’re mad at each other. Isn’t it wonderful that God is not the same way? Can you imagine what our lives would be like if God didn’t want to be around us because we sin too much? That’s what it means to have a steadfast love. A love that is with us through our ups and our down. Today, take a few moments to thank God for a steadfast love. What would our lives be without it?

Wednesday - July 29
Please read Romans 8:12-25
Do you have a boss who tells you what to do? Jesus isn’t like that.
Do you have someone in your life who likes to point out every time you make a mistake? Jesus isn’t like that. Do you have people who like to tell you how to better live your life even though they may not know your struggles? Jesus isn’t like that. For some, having a God who disciplines, instructs and points out when we’ve done something wrong is about the worst thing they can imagine. But Jesus isn’t like that. Jesus lifts us up when we fall and holds us when we cry. Today, someone needs to hear about Jesus. What can you tell them?

Tuesday - July 28
Please read Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24
Prayer is not allowed at schools. The Ten Commandments are being taken down on courthouse lawns across the nation. It seems that everyday we get news of how our nation of laws is legislating God out of government. But the problem is, a nation is not just the government. It’s the people. When the Psalmist says the nations should praise God, he’s not talking about Washington D.C. He’s talking about you. And me. If we don’t praise God in our public lives, how can we offer sincere worship in our private lives? Instead of worrying about how the government is legislating away God, maybe we should worry more on how we are forgetting God in our own lives. Today, pray for our nation.

Monday - July 27
Please read Genesis 28:10-19a
I once interviewed a young man for a job. One of the standard questions was, “Where do you see yourself in five years at the company?” His answer was, “I’ll have your job.” Needless to say, I didn’t hire him. Because there’s something called too much ambition. It’s the same in the ministry as well. When we think we can do things better than the pastor, or the Sunday School teacher or the prayer steward, then maybe we have the wrong kind of attitude. Christianity is not a competition. Thank Heaven for that. Christianity is a way of life. It’s love and grace and hope and joy and the one thing it’s not is ambitious. Have you ever been ambitious in your own Christian walk? Ask God to turn that ambition into something that would better serve Jesus.
