Friday, May 29
Please read Psalm 4:7-8
Author of Time Itself, how blessed I surely am. I can sleep in peace because I know Your love. David proclaimed, “I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.” I too know peace because of Your son Jesus Christ. You have freed me from the slavery of sin and death and made with me a new covenant by water and by Spirit. And because of that covenant you have promised to be my God and I promise to place my faith in you. How blessed I surely am to have a God who keeps promises. A God who loves unconditionally and sows hope and peace in a turbulent world. Today, dear God, as I lay my head to sleep I praise Your name. Amen.

Thursday, May 28
Please read John 17:1-11
Have you ever been a tattle-tale? Somebody’s doing something they’re not supposed to and you need to tell someone. As adults, do you still act like a tattle-tale when you pray? Somebody’s doing something they’re not supposed to and you feel like you need to tell God about it. Instead of condemning someone in our prayer, we should be lifting them up. Today, pray for someone that you don’t approve of. Pray that they will feel God’s love.

Wednesday, May 27
Please read 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11
It seems that denominations have a tendency to break according to which aspect of God they worship most. For some it’s Christ crucified. For others it’s Christ’s resurrection. For others it is a God who provides and for some it’s the pentecostal power of the Holy Spirit. We sometimes forget that it’s through our faith in Christ that we come to be forgiven by God and the evidence is the Holy Spirit in our lives. We should worship all aspects of the Trinity. Today pray that people see the Holy Spirit.

Tuesday, May 26
Please read Psalm 68:1-10, 32-35
The more you know, the more of God you’ll see. That’s the practical explanation of Psalms 68. The Psalm is telling us that the more we come to know God through scripture reading and prayer then the more our lives will be filled with joy and happiness because we start to find something most people don’t. We become content. Are you still searching for contentment in life? Is this what is keeping you from being happy?

Monday, May 25
Please read Acts 1:6-14
All throughout the Bible we see people who scream at their enemies. They shake their fists and say, “If I can’t get you back, then one day God will!” This necessarily means that we believe God will seek vengeance for us. Do you believe that God will be your own personal enforcer and bring vengeance down on those who’ve hurt you? Maybe we’re placing too much on vengeance and not enough on the blessings God has in store for the world through Jesus Christ.

Psalm 4:6
God of the Infinite, sometimes I look at days gone by and long for the “good ol’ days.” But often, the good ol’ days are only in my mind. Every day brings with it its own blessings and instead of trying to remember the blessings of the past I pray that you will help me to look forward to the blessings of today. It’s true, “There are many who say, ‘O that I might see some good! Let the light of Your face shine on us, O Lord!’ You have put gladness in my heart more than when their grain and wine abound.” The past is gone and done. And today is still new in my heart. Give me this day Your blessings so that I can tell others about the goodness of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Thursday, May 21
Please read John 14:15-21
In most adventure movies, when the heroes go on a journey, when night comes, someone is always supposed to take the first watch. The designated person who is supposed to stay up and watch for danger while everyone else goes to sleep. Invariably, the wayward hero always goes to sleep. All the watchman sees are the dreams reflected against his eyelids. When we rely upon people to give us guidance, we’ll always be disappointed. They’ll be asleep, figuratively and literally, when we need them the most. But, God watches over you day and night. God gives love when we need it the most. Today, give praise to God that God loves us so much God is with us each moment of our lives.

Wednesday, May 20
Please read 1 Peter 3:13-22
We are really busy. Meetings everyday. Kids have practices for this and for that. Date nights with the spouse. Cooking, cleaning, laundry. Binge watching our favorite show we had to record because we didn’t have time to watch it live. Life throws us one thing after another, after another. Which is good, because if we had time to stop and think about things, our question might be, “What’s the meaning of life?” What’s our goal for our busyness? Why do we do all of this? Peter tells us what that goal should be. Living a life that is filled with Christ. Today, take a look at your schedule and see how you can give God glory in the midst of it. Maybe it’s as simple as saying a prayer while folding clothes or listening to a hymn while picking up kids.

Tuesday, May 19
Please read Psalm 66:8-20
One of my favorite things to do is to find a new restaurant. It’s always exciting to find a new place, to look over the menus and talk to the waitress. New food, new people and new experiences. I love it! But to many of us, doing something new isn’t exciting. In fact, it can be down right scary and intimidating. Our God is the God of the new. Each day brings new blessings and new hopes. Each year brings new challenges and new goals. Instead of praying the same old way, maybe today we should try something new! If you don’t pray the Psalms, then pray this one today. Pray for someone you normally wouldn’t pray for or pray for something great and impossible. Because God is not only the God of the new, but the impossible too!
