Mission of Sight

Mission of Sight Mission of Sight was created to assist the temporary physical needs and address the eternal Spiritual condition of those we serve.

Mission of Sight was formed in September 2004 as a compassionate ministry with the mission to share the Gospel through the gift of sight. This came to be through the lifetime work of Dr. Paul Gamertsfelder, the father of Work and Witness in the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Paul, a retired optometrist, for many years traveled to the Caribbean regions to conduct eye clinics. Using his resources and G

od’s strength, Dr. Paul distributed thousands of pairs of glasses over the years, and through the help of volunteer Eye Care teams, restored sight to countless individuals. Because of the great need for health care in the Caribbean, a vision was cast for a multipurpose health clinic that would provide medical treatment, education, and training and would meet the needs of the whole person, body, mind, soul, and spirit. In March 2008, ground was broken for the Gamertsfelder Mission Centre in Frome, Jamaica. The building was constructed over a period of two years with the help of many Work and Witness teams and contractors. The first eye exam was conducted in the new GMC in November 2009, and the actual ribbon-cutting ceremony for the primary care wing was held on May 1, 2011.

What a collectively big heart this team has! Led by the incredible Dr. Steven Suh and Dr. Charles Cohn, they brought with them a spirit of joy, compassion, and the kind of care that restores more than sight, it restores dignity and hope. In just 4 days, 53 blind eyes now see!

From Ohio and Texas to Jamaica, this is what love in action looks like: lives transformed by vision restored.

Special shout out to Dr. Suh for the new MOS song that captures the heart of our work at MOS.

Sight restored. Lives transformed.

Our Q1 recap is more than numbers. It’s people seeing clearly again, families renewed, and hope restored. We witnessed lives change in ways that go far beyond vision, because what starts with restored sight often becomes a deeper transformation in spirit, opportunity, and possibility.

Thank you for being part of this life transforming work. Every contribution, whether financial, relational, or through advocacy, helps us reach more people who are waiting for the gift of sight.

Join us in the recovery of sight. Donate today, lead a team or join us in prayer!

Seven days. One mission. Lives changed forever!

We had the privilege of hosting the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists from The Ohio State University College of Optometry for an unforgettable week of service.
Six student doctors and one optometrist, fully immersed in medical missions at its best.
From surgical post-ops to SLT, to general clinical care to witnessing the life-changing impact of cataract surgery. This team experienced the full journey of sight restoration .

Together, we joined in the work of restoring sight, to the glory of God. This enduring partnership with the FCO @ The Ohio State continues to be one of our most treasured.

Thank you for your faithfulness, your compassion, and your willingness to go where you are needed most.

Newer to the MOS family, but already deeply impactful is Dr. Andrew Moyes and his team from Moyes Eye Center.

Dr. Moyes is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon and leader in refractive and cataract surgery, having performed over 23,000 procedures and contributed to clinical research and FDA studies in advancing eye care.

But what makes this partnership truly special goes far beyond expertise.

His life and practice are anchored in faith.
With a personal motto, “Jesus washed feet, we clean eyeballs,” Dr. Moyes embodies what it means to serve both physical and spiritual blindness, bringing healing, dignity, and hope to every patient he encounters.

For over 15 years, he has carried this mission across borders, from Haiti to now Jamaica; faithfully restoring sight while reflecting Christ through his care.

At Mission of Sight
we don’t just bring doctors.
We bring the very best!
In skill, in heart, and in calling.

Thank you, Dr. Moyes, and your incredible team, for choosing Mission of Sight, for choosing Jamaica! Year 3 of many more to come!

Because of your generosity and involvement, 2025 was a year of expanded impact for Mission of Sight.

• 802 life-changing surgeries
• 13 Surgical Teams serving faithfully
• 2 weeks of Children’s Clinics reaching 314 children
• 100 Volunteers giving 4,820 hours
• 22 Jamaican Staff delivering excellence daily.

And this is just the snapshot.

In the midst of a catastrophic last quarter, we were also able to host five hurricane recovery teams, extending care and hope when it was needed most. Your partnership helped make all of this possible.

As we look ahead, we invite you to be part of what God will continue to do through Mission of Sight in 2026 and beyond. A year-end gift made TODAY, December 31st directly supports our ongoing recovery, future clinics, eye surgeries, and the lives still waiting to be touched.

Thanks for partnering with us

When we reflect on 2025, what stands out most is not simply what has been accomplished, but who we accomplished it with.

All throughout the year, it's been evident that God has been intentionally weaving people like you together with us to accomplish His purposes.

We believe Christ is the common thread, the ultimate relationship, and clearly the 'reason for the season'.

The Bible reminds us, “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19), and through your support, that Love has been made visible through our collective action.

Thank you for trusting Mission of Sight, and for walking with us not as distant supporters, but as true partners in the work God is doing.

May this Christmas fill your home with peace and your spirit with renewed hope in Christ.

Have a Blessed Christmas!
