🌸✨ Happy Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary! ✨🌸

Today we celebrate the birthday of Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our Mother. Her “yes” to God changed the course of salvation history, and her life continues to inspire us to trust fully in God’s plan. 💙

As we honor her nativity, let us thank God for the gift of Mary, who leads us ever closer to her Son through her.

Let us ask for her intercession in our lives, to lead us closer to Christ by praying a Hail Mary today.

Happy Labor Day from the Diocese of Crookston! Join us in prayer as we pray for all those who work.

God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the worker. Make a place in our hearts for compassion to the men and women who labor tirelessly for basic necessities. Ensure a place for the men and women who are struggling to find work. Grant us your wisdom to greet and care for those who are unable to work due to illness or circumstances that prevent their participation. Be with the children who are not able to run and play, but instead must put in a hard day’s work to help their family afford to eat, to live. Be with us all, Christ Jesus, as we go about the busyness of our work. Hold us accountable not only for our actions, but most importantly to each of our neighbors. May we continue to work together to bring about your reign! We ask this in your holy name, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

During National Su***de Prevention Week, we take time to pray for those who are struggling, remember those whose lives have been lost to su***de, and remind those who are hurting that they are not alone.

As Catholics, we are called to be a source of hope and compassion for one another. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or reaching out to someone who may be struggling can remind them that they are seen, loved, and valued.

Let us pray that God brings comfort to those who are suffering and gives us the courage to reach out with compassion to those in need.

Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, a woman who dedicated her life to serving Christ by caring for the poorest and most vulnerable among us.

Through her simple acts of love and compassion, Mother Teresa reminded the world that every person is made in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be treated with dignity and love. She trusted that even the smallest acts of kindness, when offered to Christ, could make a lasting difference.

Her life challenges us to look beyond ourselves and recognize Christ in those we encounter each day. May we follow her example by serving others with humility, generosity, and love.

✨ 50 YEARS A BISHOP — AD MULTOS ANNOS, BISHOP BALKE! ✨

Today, September 2, the Diocese of Crookston joyfully celebrates a remarkable milestone in the life of The Most Reverend Victor H. Balke, Bishop Emeritus of Crookston: the 50th anniversary of his episcopal ordination.

On September 2, 1976, Bishop Balke was ordained a bishop and installed as the sixth Bishop of Crookston. For more than three decades, he shepherded the Church in northwest Minnesota with faithfulness and devotion, serving as our diocesan bishop until his retirement in 2007.

Today, 50 years after his episcopal ordination, Bishop Balke remains a beloved part of the life of our local Church — a living witness to a lifetime given in service to Christ and his people.

And this month holds another extraordinary milestone: on September 29, Bishop Balke will celebrate his 95th birthday!

We give thanks to God for Bishop Balke’s vocation, his priesthood and episcopal ministry, and the countless lives touched through his service to the Church.

Bishop Balke’s episcopal motto offers fitting words for this joyful day:

“Bless the Lord, my soul.”

Please join us in congratulating Bishop Balke on his Golden Jubilee of Episcopal Ordination and in praying for him with gratitude:

May the Lord continue to bless and strengthen Bishop Balke, and may he know the deep gratitude and affection of the people he has served for so many years.

Today, we observe the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, a day to give thanks for the beauty of God's creation and reflect on our responsibility to care for the world He has entrusted to us.

In Laudato Si’, Pope Francis' encyclical letter, reminds us that “our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us.” Creation is a gift from God, and we are called to be faithful stewards of that gift, caring for our common home and for one another.

Today, let us take time to pray for the care of creation and ask God to guide us in becoming better stewards of the earth and its resources.

May we praise God for the beauty of His creation and respond to His gift with gratitude, wisdom, and love. 🌎🙏

Today, we celebrate the Memorial of Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, one of the great teachers and witnesses of the Catholic faith.

After years of searching for truth, Augustine encountered Christ and experienced the transforming power of God's grace. He went on to become a priest and bishop, dedicating his life to serving the Church, teaching the faith, and leading others toward Christ.

Saint Augustine's life reminds us that no matter where our journey has taken us, God's grace is always calling us closer to Him. His story encourages us to seek the truth, open our hearts to God's mercy, and allow Christ to transform our lives.
