Today, we congratulate Bishop Balke as he celebrates his Golden Jubilee of Episcopal Ordination!

✨ 50 YEARS A BISHOP — AD MULTOS ANNOS, BISHOP BALKE! ✨

Today, September 2, the Diocese of Crookston joyfully celebrates a remarkable milestone in the life of The Most Reverend Victor H. Balke, Bishop Emeritus of Crookston: the 50th anniversary of his episcopal ordination.

On September 2, 1976, Bishop Balke was ordained a bishop and installed as the sixth Bishop of Crookston. For more than three decades, he shepherded the Church in northwest Minnesota with faithfulness and devotion, serving as our diocesan bishop until his retirement in 2007.

Today, 50 years after his episcopal ordination, Bishop Balke remains a beloved part of the life of our local Church — a living witness to a lifetime given in service to Christ and his people.

And this month holds another extraordinary milestone: on September 29, Bishop Balke will celebrate his 95th birthday!

We give thanks to God for Bishop Balke’s vocation, his priesthood and episcopal ministry, and the countless lives touched through his service to the Church.

Bishop Balke’s episcopal motto offers fitting words for this joyful day:

“Bless the Lord, my soul.”

Please join us in congratulating Bishop Balke on his Golden Jubilee of Episcopal Ordination and in praying for him with gratitude:

May the Lord continue to bless and strengthen Bishop Balke, and may he know the deep gratitude and affection of the people he has served for so many years.

Ad multos annos, Bishop Balke! Happy Golden Jubilee! 💛

Please keep our students in your prayers this week! We are so looking forward to our 115th year of Catholic education in Crookston.

St. John Bosco, pray for us!

✨ Tomorrow, it all begins again. ✨

Tomorrow we kick off the 115th year of Catholic education at Cathedral School! ❤️💙

On September 1, 1911, Cathedral School opened its doors for the very first time. For 115 years, generations of students have walked through those doors—learning, growing, building friendships, discovering their faith, and becoming the people God created them to be.

So many lives have been touched by Cathedral throughout the years. Students, families, teachers, staff, priests, volunteers, and countless members of our community have all played a part in the story of Cathedral School. And while we celebrate our past, we look forward with great excitement to all of the lives that will continue to be impacted by this special school.

Tomorrow, we welcome our students back and begin writing the next chapter of the Cathedral story. 📚✏️🙏

115 years of faith. 115 years of family. 115 years of learning. And so much more to come.

Here’s to a wonderful school year, Cathedral School! We can’t wait to see you tomorrow! ❤️💙

In this pastoral letter, Renewing the Formation of Our Youth, Bishop Andrew H. Cozzens shares a renewed vision for the faith formation of children and young people in the Diocese of Crookston .

After two years of study, consultation, and discernment involving catechists, parish leaders, clergy, and diocesan staff, this new model seeks to address one of the greatest challenges facing the Church today: helping young people encounter Jesus Christ, grow as his disciples, and remain active in the life of the Church.

The pastoral letter introduces a new framework for youth faith formation built around three stages: Encounter, Discipleship, and Witness. It emphasizes the essential role of parents as the primary educators of their children in the faith, the importance of small-group accompaniment and mentoring, and the need to foster a personal relationship with Jesus Christ rooted in prayer, the sacraments, and participation in parish life.

Bishop Cozzens invites parents, grandparents, catechists, parish leaders, and all the faithful to read the letter and join in this important renewal effort as we seek to help the next generation know, love, and follow Jesus Christ.

What have you always wanted to ask?

Maybe you have a question about the Catholic faith. Maybe there’s something about the Church you’ve never quite understood. Maybe you’ve been thinking about a question of faith, life, relationships, culture, or something completely unexpected.

Bring it to Fishbowl of Faith.

Each Thursday evening, we gather in the Parish Living Room, place anonymous questions and topics into the fishbowl, and talk about them together. There’s no prepared lesson and no need to have all the answers. Just an opportunity to ask honest questions, listen to one another, and grow in faith through conversation.

Thursdays at 7:00 PM
