Episcopal Church of the Advent Crestwood

Episcopal Church of the Advent Crestwood Fully Alive in God Advent’s Rule of Life
At Advent, we believe the Christian life is lived in community. The eucharist is at the heart of our life together.

To help express the value we place on our life as a community, Advent has developed a rule of life. In the eucharist, we receive the gift of God’s life to us; in gratitude, we offer our common life, under the signs of bread and w**e; in the eucharist, we participate in the joy of the divine life. Through our eucharistic life together, we join in the divinization of the world. God desires to draw a

ll creation to the divine self, and has graciously called us to be a part of this work. In our eucharistically-centered life together, we learn to discern, desire, and participate in this “new creation.” As Christ became one of us, so we are becoming one with him. Living into this transforming work, we are ourselves transformed into his likeness. The eucharist binds us together in the Body of Christ. Because our relationships with one another and with the whole created world constitute our offering to God, we treat those relationships with the utmost care. For this reason, we commit to being honest with one another, and accepting that gift of honesty from others with attention. We walk with one another, and all who join us, through the joys and sorrows of life, bringing all into relationship with God in the eucharist. We trust our whole common life, past, present and future into God’s gracious care.
* Divinization speaks of the union of divine and created natures, as creation is drawn by God’s desire to its fulfillment in the communion of love. God so loved the world, that in the Word-made-flesh, God joined the divine and created natures. As the Church offers the world to God, and is sanctified by God’s Spirit, it continues the Incarnation of Christ’s Body in the world and shares the divine joy with all creation.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 1:30 to 3:30, Advent will again assist Emmanuel, Webster Groves, with their food packaging event for Rise Against Hunger. We, along with members of other churches, will help fill 30,000 bags with soy, rice, dried vegetable chips, and nutrient packs, weigh and seal these bags, and prepare them for shipping. This will be our fourth year to help with this event. It is an opportunity to participate in a service/outreach project that only requires 2 hours of your time once a year. And it is FUN!!!

Our small parish has had nearly as many volunteers in each of the last two years as our average Sunday attendance, which speaks very well for the wonderful commitment of Advent parishioners!

If you would like to work this year and have not already registered with Janice Evans, please let her know as soon as possible in person or email [email protected] or phone/text (314) 560-2790

If you attend church at 8 AM, please let Rev. Emily know you would like to volunteer and she will have Janice register you on the official volunteer website.

Emmanuel must raise $12,100 to host this event. Advent’s Vestry has promised to raise $1000 of this amount either from parishioner donations or from our outreach budget. If you are interested in making a donation to help with the expense of this project, you may place a cash donation in an envelope marked RAH or write a check with RAH in memo line. Either type of donation may go into our collection basket, and we will forward all donations to Emmanuel.

All volunteer efforts and donations will be greatly appreciated!
