What a wonderful afternoon spent together worshipping and enjoying great fellowship! Pastor Karl’s Installation was a phenomenal service with special music by Chery, Annie, Gary, Denice & Bill, a children’s sermon, readings by Gracie and then the aspects of the Installation before we had communion. Pastor Karl had pastor friends from Columbus make the trip to our church, pastors from all around that came from their churches and our NE Ohio Conference Dean Pastor Jonathan also gave the sermon. The future is bright and we are blessed to have made it through the entire call process and officially welcome Pastor Karl to Canaan Lutheran Church!

Just a reminder! No morning service tomorrow, 8/23! We’ll see you for a special 2:00 service for Pastor Karl’s Installation. A dessert bar and ice cream reception will follow. Please bring your favorite dessert!

Please join us August 29th from 6:00-8:30. Fun, fellowship, food, music, and relaxation. Oh and have a glass of wine or a yummy slushy. There will be a food truck and snacks to purchase or bring your own. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair. Hope to see you there.

Sometimes, welcoming a new pastor can turns things on their head… for us, and Pastor Karl, he was the one turned on his head! Canaan had a wonderful first service with their new Pastor Karl Hanf preaching about helping each other and we celebrated his birthday at a bbq potluck following! If you have pictures or videos from today’s festivities, feel free to drop them in the comments!

Just a reminder for Sunday! It might be a good idea to bring your camping chairs for extra seating outside. It looks like the weather will be good and we’ll be able to celebrate at the pavilion.

Our new pastor, Karl Hanf, began his first day with us today! We’re looking forward to his first Sunday with us on August 9th! We’ll see you all then with a side dish for our potluck barbecue welcoming & celebrating him. This is an exciting time for our church!

Dear Friends,

It is with sadness that I share with you that May 17 will be my last Sunday with you. Two weeks ago, the bishop’s office asked me to consider meeting with council of Holy Trinity, Akron. It is a congregation which needs my set of gifts. After meeting with the council, we agreed that on May 24 I begin a new interim ministry at Holy Trinity.

Interim ministry assignments normally last no more than 18 months. I will have been at Canaan almost 29 months. I was with you the length of a short call rather than an interim ministry assignment. I am rather surprised that the bishop’s office let me stay as long as I had.

I have enjoyed my time doing interim ministry, but the hard part is that I have to say goodbye a great deal. It never gets any easier. It will be particularly difficult saying goodbye to you. You are my longest “interim.” Your love has enfolded not just me but also my family. You made my family part of your family. I know you will do the same with your new pastor.

I will always pray for you here at Canaan. May God bless you and continue to guide with the Holy Spirit as you share the love of Jesus among yourselves and those around you.
