In circumstances that are painful and difficult, it's hard to be grateful. We start seeing only what's going wrong, only the earthly perspective. Slowly, we stop striving to see what God is doing, we stop thinking of the multitude of blessings, and we lose sight of the eternal perspective. No matter what we go through here on earth, Heaven is waiting. That alone is enough to be grateful for, and "rejoice in all circumstances." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Colossians 3:15 — “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… And be thankful.”
Hebrews 12:28 — “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”
Ephesians 5:20 — “Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Empowering adult children to make their own choices and sometimes fail is foundational. Kids are still growing into their identities, and they will make mistakes, but it’s these mistakes that will help them learn and grow. Through this process, continue to show them they have value, and cover them in prayer - richly, purposefully, and with compassion - not accusation.

You are not in control of your adult child - but God is. He is not surprised by the decisions your child is making. And His plan is perfect.

If you are feeling weary today, meditate on these verses:

(Jeremiah 29:11) When life feels confusing and nothing makes sense, remember that God still has a good plan for you. Even the waiting seasons are not wasted.

(Isaiah 60:22) When things feel delayed and you are tempted to rush, trust this truth. What is meant for you will come at the right time, because God is never late.

(1 John 5:14) And on days when words are hard to find, pray anyway. God hears every prayer, even the silent ones you carry in your heart.

Rest in the Lord, trust His plan, and keep moving forward on the path He has laid out for you.

Deuteronomy 11:19 states, “Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Your child’s salvation isn’t your obligation: our responsibility is to teach them the Word and how to understand it, praying for them continually, and role modeling what living in Christ looks like.
