Christ Lutheran Church Cottonwood MN

Christ Lutheran Church Cottonwood MN Christ Lutheran Church is one of nearly 280 congregations in the Southwest Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

Across the country, there are 65 synods that comprise the ELCA. As we are a vital part of the "larger church" What we believe

Lutherans believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation -- the earth and the seas and all of the world’s inhabitants. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and his new life, and we trust that God's Spiri

t is active in the world. We are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story. The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds. These ecumenical creeds that Lutherans affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world. Confession of Faith of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is part of our founding. The ELCA accepts the following creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church: Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian. Our Faith

We believe that we are justified by grace through faith. Faith is what opens us to God’s transforming influence. Simply trusting the gospel and practicing God’s presence (prayer) is the very heart of relationship with God. We nurture faith by hearing God’s word and participation in Baptism and Holy Communion. As the Apostle Paul writes: “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

If you missed us on Live Stream, we welcome you to the recorded worship service for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost on September 6, 2026. Live Stream is available each week on YouTube at Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, MN.

Conflict is a part of relationships and life in community. Jesus’ words in today's gospel are often used in situations having to do with church discipline. The prophet Ezekiel tells of warning the wicked to turn from their ways, and Paul reminds us that love is the fulfilling of the law. We gather in the name of Christ, assured that he is present among us with gifts of peace and reconciliation. (Sundays and Seasons, Augsburg Fortress, 2025)

If you missed us on Live Stream, we welcome you to the recorded worship service for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost on August 30, 2026. Live Stream is available each week on YouTube at Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, MN.

The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the incurable wound of his suffering yet finds in God’s words the delight of his heart. When Peter doesn’t grasp Jesus’ words about suffering, Jesus tells the disciples they will find their lives in losing them. Such sacrificial love is described by Paul when he urges us to associate with the lowly and not repay evil with evil. In worship we gather as a community that we might offer ourselves for the sake of our suffering world.

If you missed us on Live Stream, we welcome you to the recorded worship service for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost on August 23, 2026. Live Stream is available each week on YouTube at Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, MN.

In Isaiah the people are advised to look to their spiritual ancestors as the rock from which they were hewn. Jesus declares that the church will be built on the rock of Peter’s bold confession of faith. God’s word of reconciliation and God’s mercy are keys to the church’s mission. Paul urges us to not be conformed to this world but to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, using our individual gifts to build up the body of Christ. From the table we go forth to offer our spiritual worship through word and deed.

If you missed us on Live Stream, we welcome you to the recorded worship service for the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost on August 16, 2026. Live Stream is available each week on YouTube at Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, MN.

In Isaiah we hear that God’s house shall be a house of prayer for all people and that God will gather the outcasts of Israel.
Jesus tells a parable in which the poor one is “lifted up” and the rich one is “sent away empty.” Consideration of and care for those in need is an essential component of good stewardship. It is in the sharing of wealth that we avoid the snare of wealth.
In our gathering around word and meal we receive strength to be signs of comfort, healing, and justice for those in need. (Sundays and Seasons, Augsburg Fortress, 2025)
