Frances Anne Branning (nee Cleveland) died May 27, 2026. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 28, 1943.
She recalled that at the age of 3 or 4, while watching parades she singled out flute players as those carrying the instrument she, too, wanted to play. Indeed she went on to study flute, play in the Alamo Heights High School band in San Antonio and the University of Texas Longhorn Band. She earned a bachelor's degree from UT and later a master's from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She was a teacher and taught elementary bands in Dallas and autistic and multiply handicapped children in schools in the Corpus Christi and Kingsville school districts. She was a co-founder of the Coastal Bend Flute Club and a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church adult choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Maidee Cleveland.
She is survived by her husband Charles Branning, her son David (Victoria), her daughter Rebecca Urbanovsky (Michael), 4 grandchildren Owen and James Branning and Sarah and Annie Urbanovsky; also cousins Barbara Cowart, Suzanne Taitte, Linda Brinkley, Yvonne Anderson and John Stennett.
Visitation will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 6:15pm - 9:00pm. Visitation will resume at 9:30am on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at St Pius X Catholic Church, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00am. Interment will be in San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers a donation either to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
