Today, we pause in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001. May we never forget the families who continue to carry the weight of that day, and those who gave their lives serving others.

Heavenly Father,
We entrust to Your loving mercy all those who lost their lives on September 11.

Comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who continue to carry painful memories, and bless all who serve to protect and care for others.

Give us hearts that choose peace over hatred, courage over fear, and love over division.

Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, watch over our nation and guide us toward peace.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

On Sept. 11, 2001, there was no shortage of heroic first responders who confronted danger instead of avoiding it.

Many Catholic clergy and religious ministered among them — including priests, friars and sisters. Some of their stories are perhaps less well known — but the help and healing they also brought to those who experienced the devastating losses of 9/11 are worth remembrance on the 25th anniversary of this tragedy.

For the 2,977 souls lost 25 years ago today: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The U.S. bishops have published a pastoral plan calling for a faithful replica of St. Juan Diego’s tilma to be enthroned in every diocese in the United States as the Church prepares for the 500th anniversary of the Guadalupe Marian apparitions in 2031.

The proposal is set out in “One Tilma, One Heart: Walking with Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Footsteps of Saint Juan Diego” and is part of the Intercontinental Guadalupe Novena’s 2025–2028 strategic plan, which aims at “a profound spiritual renewal and unity under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe.”
