Monday Morning Meditations (6/15/26)

So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren" (Genesis 13:8).

Strife between brethren is never a good thing. The wise man said long ago, “The beginning of strife is like releasing water; therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts” (Proverbs 17:14).

Saints in Corinth were caught up in the sin of strife, and as a result the apostle could not describe them as spiritual but as carnal (1 Cor. 1:11; 3:1-3). Whenever strife occurs between brethren for whatever reason, we need mature men of God like Abraham who will step in and humbly plead “let there be no strife between you and me.”

Did you notice the reason that he gave? In a powerful and loving appeal, he simply said, “for we are brethren.” In other words, we are brothers, we are family.

May we also remember this tender appeal whenever quarrels and contentions arise. Let us work out and work through our differences (Matt. 5:23-24). Why? For we be brethren!
