🌍 ChangeMaker Spotlight: Marco Gaspar | Portugal
For Marco, ministry happens through preaching, discipleship, and even a game of futsal—indoor soccer.
Marco serves at Arrifana Baptist Church and as president of the association in Portugal. He and his wife, Sandra, are celebrating 25 years of marriage, and together with their son, Pedro, they love serving the Lord as a family. Both Sandra and Pedro help lead worship, and investing in others through discipleship is close to their hearts.
About three years ago, Marco and Pedro began using their shared love of futsal to build relationships and share the gospel in Sintra. They started simply: praying before their Wednesday games. Over time, they added Scripture, thought-provoking quotations, and brief reflections. Today, the ministry includes two teams, reaching players from teenagers to adults over 40.
But the journey has required patience. Marco considered giving up several times because he couldn’t see results. Then, as he prayed about someone to invest in personally, Gualter came to mind…a friend who had dismissed belief in God as outdated about 20 years earlier.
After months of hesitation, Marco approached him. To his surprise, Gualter was willing to talk. While he has not yet placed his faith in Christ, his views have changed, and he shared that he enjoys reading the Psalms.
For Marco, that conversation was an encouragement to keep trusting God and obeying Him, even when the results aren’t immediately visible. Through these relationships, God is also teaching Marco and Pedro to grow in compassion, sacrifice for others, and become more like Jesus.
