In 1819 St. Patrick's Chapel was founded and has remained a symbol of the immigrants hopes & dreams. In Ireland, the Penal Laws denied suffrage to Catholics.

It is the second oldest Catholic worship site in Cecil County, Maryland· Built in 1819, the chapel is a testimonial to the impact of the Bill of Rights and the American Constitution. This chapel was built by Irish immigrants working on the Susquehanna canals and the local lumbering industry. They were not allowed to have schools and the ownership of property was carefully restricted. Rentals and taxes were designed to drive Catholics off the land. In their new country, they had the freedom to worship, and to build their own church, rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. It is note worthy that these immigrants, who certainly were not wealthy, used their meager savings to build a worship site, an investment that as Americans they felt secure enough to do.· It is one of the oldest public buildings in Cecil County and is part of the heritage and history of the county as well as the state of Maryland. In 1978 the site was considered valuable enough by the state of Maryland to be placed on the register of the Maryland Historic Trust as a historic site. Contributions are gratefully accepted. Thank you to Father Jay and Father Abrams for another wonderful Mass at St. Patrick's Chapel. From the bagpipes to the original organ music to the sound of singing in the full church, it certainly was a blessed event. Not to mention the delicious food, especially the Shepherd's pie. Thank you to all the many people that made this day possible and continue to support this historical Chapel. We hope to see you again in Dec 5th at 10 AM.

With great sorrow, we share the news that Betty Glackin Contino has begun her heavenly rest. Betty was an amazing force that dearly loved St. Patrick's Chapel and the legacy of her Glackin heritage. May she rest in peace.

With deep sorrow, we mourn the loss of Marilyn Pare. Marilyn and Bill have been instrumental in keeping St. Patrick's Chapel restored and maintained for many to enjoy. We send our love and prayers to all that were blessed to know her. Her memory will live on in her long legacy of sharing her talents with the world. May she rest with the angels.
