Thanks to Grassroots Crisis Intervention for helping us turn the extreme negative of the church fire and flood into the wonderful positive of helping people receive crisis services and so much more!
Thank you so much to First Presbyterian Church of Howard County, which has so graciously sponsored today, July 1, at the Grassroots Crisis Center! Their donation of $2,400 helps makes this 24-hour period of crisis services possible.
First Presbyterian Church chose today, in memory of the lightning strike that displaced the church one year ago on July 1, 2025. Lightning entered the building through a metal gas line, exited the gas line in the ceiling of Buck Hall, and ignited the leaking gas.
No one was harmed, but Buck Hall sustained water damage and the fire also got into the sanctuary floor, necessitating the removal of much of the chancel platform to put it out.
The are so glad the church has rebuilt its beautiful sanctuary and welcomes members to worship! First Presbyterian has been a fantastic partner to Grassroots, also supporting our Cold Weather Shelter for more than 20 years. This year, First Presbyterian Church provided meals and fellowship to individuals seeking refuge from the harsh winter.
The Grassroots Crisis Center provides a variety of free, 24-hour services, including support via: our hotline (410-531-6677), walk-in counseling at 8990 Old Annapolis Road, Suite A in Columbia, and chats, texts and calls to 988. We also offer free, 24-hour substance use support, Mobile Crisis Team services and access to a 24-hour food and hygiene pantry.
Thank you so much to First Presbyterian Church for your amazing support!
