In 2025, the UUA reiterated its opposition to such military action. We do so again today, and every day these armed attacks continue.

Rev. Lisa joined multifaith leaders in DC today to protest the Homeland Security budget. The Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, UUA President, was arrested. May we honor this moment, deepen our roots into our values, and know that justice is what love looks like in public (words from Cornel West).

Today, UUA President Rev. Sofía Betancourt, PhD was arrested in Washington, D.C., alongside other people of faith while protesting the Department of Homeland Security budget.

Rev. Betancourt joined religious leaders at the U.S. Capitol Complex to oppose a budget that continues to fund ICE and Customs and Border Protection—agencies responsible for ongoing harm and violence in our communities. As she said earlier today, there is no moral justification for a budget that deepens this damage.

This is a developing story. Read more about today’s action and Rev. Betancourt’s remarks—link to the article in the comments.

600+ multifaith leaders (including Rev. Lisa, Rev. Amy, and Rev. Lydia) gathering in Minneapolis last week to confront ICE and fascism and show up in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis. May it inspire us all to anchor ourselves in our values, and in community.

I am heartbroken and grieving alongside you all, beloveds, as we bear witness to yet another murder of an observer in Minneapolis. May these words of prayer be a small comfort in these terrible times.

Sending love to Rev. Lisa, Rev. Amy, Rev. Lydia, and multifaith leaders in Minneapolis today. And to the citizens of Minnesota today and in the days and weeks to come.

As Unitarian Universalists we are called to center love and embody our values. May we know how serious that call is, and may it be so. Our future depends on us showing up for each other, and all of us need all of us to make it (words from Julián Jamaica Soto).

We hold the people of Minneapolis in our hearts and our prayers as they face an escalating ICE presence and increasing violence. We know that many communities across our country are experiencing similar actions and we remain in solidarity with you all.

Our historic Unitarian Universalist tradition reminds us that we are the people we've been waiting for. It takes all of us, centering love and committed to building a future where all people can thrive, to defeat oppression and nurture a loving world.

As the Jan 23rd Day of Truth & Freedom unfolds, follow our channels for ongoing reports from UU World, whose staff are on the ground in Minneapolis now.

Centering how to be more loving today with teachings from Howard Thurman from Rev. Lisa and Michael P. Howard Thurman wrote The Work of Christmas, a poem whose message we often center at Christmas here at UUCC. May we consider and lean into new, expansive ways of being more loving to self, to other, and to the world and universe around us. And may we always remember our universal translators as we move through our days. ✨
