Pride can quietly distort our view of ourselves and cause us to compare, judge, criticize, and place ourselves above other people. In Part 3 and the final message of the “If You Think You Are Something” series, Matthew teaches how pride operates and shows us how to break free from comparison and self-exaltation. Through Galatians 6:3–5, 1 Corinthians 4:7, Romans 12:3, and other Scriptures, we learn why the Bible tells us to examine our own lives rather than appraise the lives of others. Pride doesn’t just make a person think too highly of themselves—it can actually deceive them into believing something about themselves that isn’t true.

Obadiah 1:3 says, “The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee.” Pride deals in lies. It sees itself falsely and then treats that false picture like reality. But humility is completely different. Humility deals in truth. It sees things as they actually are.

And humility isn’t thinking poorly of yourself or pretending you’re less than you are. It’s seeing yourself honestly, rightly, and soberly.

In this message, “Pride Will Lie to You,” we look at the connection between pride and deception, humility and truth, and what the Bible says about seeing ourselves the right way.
