Collierville Church of Christ

Collierville Church of Christ The Collierville church of Christ is a family of Christians reaching the heart of Collierville Tennessee with the Gospel.

A group of Christians seeking to be Christians Only. We aim to live and act by the Word of God, the Bible. We hold to no human creeds nor traditions. We believe and practice what Jesus taught, "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day."

"Can Satan kill Christians? Can Satan and his servants kill Christians on this physical earth? So you hear this way, yeah, a whole lot of them have died through last 2,000 years. Yes, you go all the way back to Stephen. Could Satan and his servants kill Christians? Sure they could. And they always have. Jesus made it clear they hated me, they're gonna hate you too. And some of you, they're gonna kill.

But think about this. The beauty of the picture here with the woman representing the church is Satan can attack and Satan can kill individual Christians, but can Satan kill the church? No. He's tried. You go read some history. He's tried. But what does it take to reconstitute the church if it disappears from a location? What does it take to reconstitute, to give birth again to the Church in any location, anywhere in the world where the Church has been wiped out by persecution?"

"As you consider the eyes of the Lord, we're not talking about physical eyes. We're not talking about the eyes on this earth, the eyes that eventually become dim, the eyes that used to be able to see clearly and now they don't see quite so clearly anymore. The eyes that used to be able to focus long distances away and short distances away, and now they only focus one or the other? We're not talking about those kind of eyes, we're talking about the eyes of attention. God's attention is on the righteous. His ears are open to hear their prayer and their cry. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous for the ability to deliver them from harm. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous because He's ready to hear what they need."

"The lamp of the body is the eye. As Jesus tells us, the light of your existence is determined by your eye. He's not talking about your physical eye. He's talking about where your heart is, what your heart dwells upon, what your mind focuses on. He says, the lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that dark.
Jesus says, set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

"He says, now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. You ask, how can I see what is unseeable? And in the entire chapter of Hebrews 11, the answer is, by trusting God's Word. So example after example after example in Hebrews chapter 11 begin by using these words, by faith.

Now that's not a hope in the dark. That's not walking through the dark room and hoping you end up in the right place. That is God saying, let me shine a light in the room so you can see where you're going and I'll tell you what I'm doing."

"But the point is Jesus says, why don't you touch me and find out? If you think I'm a spirit, if you think I'm a ghost, as it were, to use the term, then why don't you put your hands on me and find out if I'm real or not? Jesus makes the point that He is both flesh and bones. He is mortal in the sense of He is fleshly and physical. He is not their imagination. He is not a vision. He is real.

And so He then says, or we then read in verse 40, when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. But while they still did not believe for joy and marveled, he said to them, have you any food here? So they gave him a piece of a boiled fish and some honeycomb, and he took it and ate in their presence. So something else that ghosts don't do is eat and digest food."

"When Paul is preaching in Corinth, in 1 Corinthians chapter one, Paul will talk about the things that he preached while he was in Corinth. And he preached according to what he said. Christ and Him crucified. And he said he determined not to preach anything else except Christ and then crucified.

Now, does that mean that Paul didn't teach on moral issues, that Paul didn't teach on doctrinal issues? We know that's not the case because he mentioned some of the things he had already taught them. But the point was in first Corinthians chapter one, I didn't preach you my opinion. I didn't preach you the wisdom of men. I didn't preach you the things that the Gentiles and all of their scholars and all of their wise men would say, and I didn't preach you the traditions of the Jews. I preached Christ and I preached him as a crucified Savior."

"But one of the things to understand is everywhere that belief and baptism and the concept of salvation are all in the context. Anywhere, as a matter of fact, where baptism and salvation are in the same context, baptism always precedes salvation every single time.

So, if someone were to say, you know what, we've got this group of people who believe we're going to have a baptism service seven days from now, then at what point are they saved? Even if they were taught right and were doing it right, they wouldn't be saved until after they were baptized. So, you'd be telling someone, you know what, you just hold on, I don't think it's that important. We'll wait and save you later. Good luck. Come see me in seven days."
