04 20 2026 Prayer is dependence on God
Throughout the Bible we read that as believers in Jesus Christ as our only means in salvation, we need to pray and stay in fellowship with our saviour. To pray is to talk to God and acknowledge him in our lives and that contains the element of dependence.
The scripture’s tell us that if we are in need we are to ask Christ for his care and guidance. Some people chant and cite repetitive words, but that certainly isn’t intelligent praying. While I believe God will meet our needs, he will not give us things that would be detrimental to us. in Luke 12 verses 27-30, we are promised that we will be cared for.
At different times through the years, I’ve been accused of being “a feel good preacher” and that’s because the gospel message which is good news says that one has only to believe that Jesus Christ has paid for their sins by His death, burial and resurrection, that is truly good news and it surely should make someone feel good; where once they were lost and hell bound, now they are going to heaven and have a heavenly father who loves them and keeps them in his family forever.
For many years I attended a legalistic church where people were seemingly always unhappy or at least feeling low, the reason being their salvation [they thought] depended on their keeping of the Ten Commandments and reformation. They didn’t realize that Christ had fulfilled the law on their behalf by His act on the cross and His resurrection. Self reformation in it’s self is a good thing, but it can’t pay for sin. In Romans 6:23 it’s written “for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. In other words the only payment for sin is death; if we pay for our own sin, we have to die and go to a place of everlasting torment, but if we trust Jesus Christ, His death will have paid the debt for us, for eternity!
I have often heard people say that it’s hard to be a christian and in some instances it may be, but it would be a lot harder not to be. I, myself, would hate to face the world today without having the Holy Spirit to guide and protect me and my family, who I thank God are believers as well.
