Today is Maundy Thursday, and we remember the night Jesus washed the disciples feet and ate his last supper with them before his crucifixion.

"When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfilment in the kingdom of God.”

After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you." - Luke 22: 14-20

"Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words "I give you a new commandment." By this statement in chapter 13 of the Gospel of John, Jesus explained to the Apostles the significance of his action of washing their feet.

Today is Holy Wednesday as we move through Holy Week Leading up to Easter Sunday. Take a moment to reflect on Isaiah 53:5.

Lord God, I give you thanks, for you are good, and your mercy is endless. Here we stand on this Holy Wednesday, the week in which your church remembers Jesus’ passion and death. Lord prepare our hearts for the days ahead.
