Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, IA

Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, IA We live and promote active nonviolence and peacemaking. We are sisters, daughters, aunts and cousins. We are servants of God. The Sisters of St. Francis and St.

We Clinton Franciscans, in the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare, are called to contemplation and continuous conversion and are sent as instruments of God's peace. We are teachers, we are artists, we are attorneys and mathematicians. We are innovators and advocates...chaplains and social workers. Francis of Clinton, Iowa is a congregation of Catholic sisters -- often referred to as "women religiou

s" -- who have been drawn to the teachings of St. Clare of Assisi. Members of this congregation, like women religious nationwide and in keeping with the Franciscan way of life, serve the people of God wherever and however we are called. The Sisters, along with Sojourners and Associates, direct our energies to peacemaking, service to poor and marginalized persons, and care of the earth all within the context of a life of active nonviolence.

Our employees gathered for a staff retreat on Tuesday, September 1, at the events center at Bickelhaupt Arboretum in Clinton.

The morning session was facilitated by Kait Tysver, a CliftonStrengths coach from Dubuque. Each employee completed an assessment measuring their natural patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Those were then categorized into 34 CliftonStrengths themes. Our employees gained self-awareness of their individual strengths, as well as learned the dynamics of their team and how all their strengths together lead to an increase in overall collaboration and performance.

The afternoon session included time to get to know our Appointed Congregational Leader, Sister Kathleen Bauer, as well as review the congregation's history, charism, and mission. Of course, they had time for food, fun, and prizes, too!

Have you ever sat on an outdoor bench at The Canticle and wondered about its history?

A large portion of a historic burr oak tree behind The Canticle split and fell to the ground. On June 18, 2010, before the remaining section of the tree could be stabilized, it succumbed to the force of a summer storm and toppled. The loss of the approximately 200-year-old tree was felt by those living at The Canticle, and two "wakes" were held to remember the tree's magnificent expression of God's creation. Furniture was made from pieces large enough to be salvaged.
