This week's scripture comes from the prophet Jeremiah, the 18th chapter. In it, Jeremiah is sent by God to the local potter's shop. God's message to the people emerges from what Jeremiah sees and hears that day. It's a timeless story, and one that speaks to us today.

Tomorrow's message is about how we are formed, how raw clay, pressure, and water can be made into something that is durable and able to be filled. But, here's something else to think about: If in the forming of the clay the pressure of the outside hand overpowers the pressure of the inside hand while the raw clay spins on the wheel, the clay will quickly rise, and then collapse. This leaving the potter with no choice but to start over.

The good news is that our God, our potter, our creator, isn't afraid to start over. For many of us, our final shape comes from our needing to be remade...and then having to be remade yet again...

Our worship service is at 10:30 am, with Sunday School at 9:30. All are welcome, come join us!

September is upon us! Our new Bible Study will begin on Wednesday, September 2, at 6 PM in Hodges Hall. We will start a study of the Book called The Acts of the Apostles. Bring your favorite Bible of any translation! To read ahead, look at Luke 24:36-53 and the first two chapters of Acts. The Book of Acts is a great place to start a new study group, as we'll quickly be introduced to many of the influential characters of the New Testament. It begins with the ascension of Jesus, closes with the story of Paul's shipwreck and later arrival in Rome, and has a lot of action in between. Bring a friend, all are welcome!

Mark your calendars! We have a great weekly Bible study opportunity coming up in September. On Wednesday, September 2 at 6pm we will begin a study of the Book called The Acts of the Apostles. Today was Scholarship Recognition Sunday! We acknowledged three hard working students this morning who were recipients from the BSUMC Scholarship Fund. Bryson Cruickshanks is a sophmore at Midlands Technical College who is working on her associates degree in general ultrasound imaging. Wesley Ray is a junior at Lander University where he is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business and sports management. Junior Hayden Stinson is working toward a bachelor's degree in forestry with an emphasis on land surveying at Clemson University. We know these talented young adults will do great things and BSUMC is very proud of them!
