Labor Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September that honors the social and economic achievements of American workers. It grew out of the late‑19th‑century labor movement, when activists pushed for a national day recognizing the contributions of workers to the country’s strength and prosperity.
Few facts:
The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City in 1882
Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894
Labor Day is meant to remind the nation of the hard‑won rights workers fought for—fair wages, safer working conditions, reasonable hours—and the ongoing importance of labor in American life.
