As our Nation celebrates Labor Day, we invite you to pause to honor those who labor with their minds and hands, those who build our homes and roads, teach our children, care for the sick, serve and protect our country and communities, cultivate our fields, operate our businesses, and perform the countless tasks that sustain our common life. Thank you to those whose work is seen and to those whose work is rarely noticed. We appreciate you all.

Volunteer Near You This National Day of Service
Your act of service is part of something bigger!

HOW CAN YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
This National Day of Service is your invitation to turn care into action and be part of something bigger than yourself. Whether you’re organizing a community event or helping a neighbor, every act of kindness contributes to a shared wave of good.

Invite your family, friends, or coworkers to serve alongside you and strengthen your local community together. When we each choose to serve, we create a ripple effect of hope that reaches far beyond what we can see.

In August, our local women's organization held a successful free clothing event at our Scranton meetinghouse.

The organizers would like to share this message, expressing their gratitude for all the support that they received.

How can we thank you enough?
Because of your generous donations, countless hours of service, and enthusiastic support, the Scranton Stake Relief Society’s first annual clothing drive and giveaway was a tremendous success!

Here are a few highlights from the week of August 5–8:
154 volunteers contributed more than 518 recorded service hours.
At least 18 missionaries joined us in serving.
More than 100 shoppers participated during August 5–7.
More than 120 shoppers came on August 8, the event day—including many community members and individuals shopping on behalf of others who could not attend.
We used and reused more than 6,000 hangers.
More than 10,000 clothing items were donated!

And the service continued after the event! We were able to distribute remaining clothing to 15+ nonprofit charitable organizations, including but not limited to Valor, St. Mark’s Church, Motherly Grace, Clothesline for Men, The Perfect Fit, Crossroads Assembly of God in Elmhurst, and many Interfaith organizations.

Our post-event donations included:
186 large garbage bags of clothing (13- to 45-gallon-size bags)
111 coats for a coat drive
155 pairs of jeans for veterans

And now for our PLEA…
PLEASE START COLLECTING CLOTHING & SHOES FOR NEXT YEAR!
We are planning to hold next year’s event during the first week of August. You will hear more details in the coming months.

Thank you again for helping make our first year such a wonderful experience. We are so grateful for the generosity, service, and love that made it possible.

Included is a Facebook link to the short advertising video we created for this year’s event. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/182bm4NK4V/
