Sacred Heart Church

You may notice a "For Sale" sign going up in front of the old rectory at Divine Mercy this week.

While many remember the building as a former church, it has not served as a church since 2016.

For the past ten years it has been used as the priests' residence. Now that Divine Mercy and Sacred Heart share clergy and the living of the Christian life, we have a new priest residence that better meets our needs.

The sale of this building is a planned step in our efforts to be good stewards of parish resources and focus them on the mission of the Church at our parishes.

Fr. John Brusa III will be joining our Two Parishes, One Family! Fr. Brusa was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Syracuse on June 7, 2025 and assigned as the parochial vicar of Saint James, Johnson City. A native of Solvay and a parishioner of Holy Family in Fairmount, he attended SUNY Oswego before entering seminary formation at St. John’s University and later Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Fr. Brusa brings with him a love for the Catholic faith, enthusiasm for evangelization, and a deep desire to help others encounter Christ. During his seminary formation, he served in several parish assignments including here at Sacred Heart and Divine Mercy. We look forward to welcoming him back to our Two Parishes, One Family!

Father Buttner will be continuing his studies in Canon Law with on campus classes in Ottawa for the next two years, but he will remain in residence with us and assist when he is able.

Please thank Father Buttner for his incredible work in our parishes and offer Father Brusa a warm welcome!
