CALL TO WORSHIP – May 10, 2026
For this Sixth Sunday of the Easter Season, we return to 1 Peter 3:13-22. We are still using The Living Bible version. Peter’s Post-Pentecost Sermon Series about the days after the Resurrection continues to speak truths to the people of Judea, but his words speak to us today, as well.

But more about that in a moment. Right now, I want to invite all of our mothers to be a part worship this Sunday. I want all of you to know how much mothers are valued and appreciated. We are reminded of all those mothers in the Bible: Mary (mother of Jesus), Sarah (mother of Isaac), Hannah (mother of Samuel), Eve ("mother of all living"), and Jochebed (mother of Moses). And more!

We think about and remember all the mothers, by birth and by choice (theirs and ours), we have known in our lifetimes and it causes us to stop and gives thanks. This Sunday we will take time to honor and remember our mothers, those who are living and those who have passed away. We have something for each of you present to take home to remember this special day, Mothers’ Day.

Our message this Sunday is still set in the Days After the Resurrection of Jesus. He walked as the Risen Son of God for forty days and then took his place at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.

From there, on the fiftieth day, he sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in, abide with and bring comfort to all people in every age. It is a Gift of God needing only to be received. Peter’s post-resurrection messages are preparing us for that indwelling, that abiding and that comfort in our time. And through the presence of the Holy Spirit, we know that God is with us.

CALL TO WORSHIP – May 3, 2026

For this Fifth Sunday of the Easter Season, we return to 1 Peter 2, the earlier verses 2-10. We are still using The Living Bible translation, or better said: paraphrase. A translation usually focuses on the exact words, whereas a paraphrase focuses on the entire context.

We are still reading Peter’s Post-Pentecost Sermon Series about the days after the Resurrection. In keeping with paraphrase writing styles, we get our message title, “The Rock, the Stone and the Building, ” from the context, a bird’s eye view, of the passage.

I know it’s true in my life, as it is with most folks, that I often find myself needing something from God that will help me face the problems that arise in my life. We’ve all found ourselves earnestly praying (even if it is silently), “Dear God, Help!”

It might be more accurate to use all CAPS: “DEAR GOD, HELP!!! “

Turns out, God has already given us the help we need and Peter is telling us what that help is and how to recognize and use it. We’ve got what we need. We just need to know how to put God’s help in motion.

When we cry “HELP!”, we can be sure that God has already given us the help we need.

Come Hear! Come See! Come Receive!

CALL TO WORSHIP – April 26, 2026
FOR this Fourth Sunday of Easter

Our message gets its title “The Guardian of Our Souls,” right from the scriptures from the New Testament, in 1 Peter 2:19-25 The Living Bible. We continue listening to Peter, as he preaches to the People of Judea (Israel).

This is one of the most difficult passages to not only read, but to incorporate in our daily lives. From it we hear about suffering being part of the work we do for God. And not only suffering the strains of time and place, but also the resistance and even harm we encounter in the world as it reacts to our sharing and witnessing to the Gospel.

But the scriptures tell us about that suffering and harm and that it brings with it, a sense of belonging. Us to it, as we follow Christ’s example, and It to us, as a part of life as people of faith in God. But really, on a day to day basis, what good is suffering

CALL TO WORSHIP – April 19, 2026

FOR this Third Sunday of Easter, we continue with Peter’s Sermon Series on who Jesus was as a man, as well as who Jeus is as God’s answer to the redemption and salvation of humanity. His words bring to the center of our lives the ‘thing’ we need the most.

The world can be an unforgiving place. War, violence, hate, racism, fascism among many other acts, have left their marks on every generation. In the face of all these evil acts, Peter’s sermon offers that ‘thing’ which can lead us away from, and out of, the darkness they bring.

We may not personally face any of those evils, but we all do face the forces of wickedness and evil. Our Baptismal Covenant calls us to renounce and reject those evil forces in whatever forms they present themselves.. To honor our commitment to do that, we need that ‘thing.’

Peter’s sermon in 1 Peter 17:1-23 makes plain what that ‘thing’ is.

CALL TO WORSHIP – April 12, 2026
ON this Second Sunday of Easter, we turn to the second part of The Apostle Peter’s Great Pentecost Sermon, In Acts 2: 14a, 22-32. Pentecost was the beginning of the New Testament Church, and Peter is stating some of the founding principles of the church.

In this case, he is setting straight the truths about just who Jesus was as a man, and who he is in God’s plan of redemption for humanity.

These are some of the most pivotal truths in the Bible. The Old Testament Law is being fulfilled and the New Testament Age of Grace is beginning. Relationship, in lieu of Religion, finds its derivation in this now famous sermon by Peter.

These are God’s Mighty Acts in Christ Jesus!
