Cheverly United Methodist Church Join us for worship each Sunday at 9:30AM. Children's Church meets during worship. As of fall 2025, our Sunday services begin at 9:30 AM.

Cheverly United Methodist Church is a church in the heart of the community with the community in our heart. Our diverse congregation welcomes you to our community and to visit our church. We are a congregation who work to better our local, national, and international communities by striving to learn and follow the teachings of Jesus in our daily living and love for one another. Weekly bible study

is at 7pm on Zoom. Children's choir practice is Wednesdays 5:30 to 6pm, and adult choir practice is on Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm.

John Newton was born in England to a mother with failing health but deep devotion, who taught him Bible passages and hymns. After her death and time at boarding school, he joined the Royal Navy, living a sailor’s life in all respects and quite forgetting his spiritual upbringing. Then one night his ship was caught in a terrible storm – and Newton cried out in distress to the Lord. Having been saved, he slowly began changing his life- eventually becoming a powerful evangelical preacher and authoring hundreds of hymns. Here is an extra verse he added to Amazing Grace that our hymnal omits: “The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, shall be forever mine.” Sourced from “Then Sings My Soul, 150 of the World’s Greatest Hynms,” by Robert J.
