Cheney United Methodist Church

Cheney United Methodist Church We seek, serve and share Jesus Christ! Pastor Damian Carruthers came in August 2022 from Germany to our church here in Cheney and is now our lead pastor.

Cheney United Methodist Church (CUMC) is a safe and welcoming place for people of the Cheney and Spokane community to come together to celebrate life, join in discussion, ask questions, pray for healing and strength, meet new people, and learn about yourself and others. We encourage people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs to visit the church, meet the wonderful congregation, and hopefully fin

d something beneficial and enlightening. We value different opinions and are not at all interested in converting anyone, but instead to keeping our minds open to discussion. If you would like to know more about CUMC, check out the website: www.cheneyumc.org or stop by for our Sunday service! Sunday Schedule:

Sometimes life feels uncertain, and we wonder what the future will bring. In this Sunday service for May 31, 2026, based on Jeremiah 29:10-15, we remember how God spoke to people who were discouraged and far from home, reminding them that even in difficult times, God has not forgotten them. These words invite us to trust that God is still guiding us with hope, purpose, and love. Our Lay Leader, Carol Kriegh, will underscore this message: "For I know the plans. I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." Come join us in worship!

On Pentecost, we baptized Trenton and received 6 new members to our church family who professed their faith! What a great day. Praise the Lord!

As a final part of our "Adverbial Faith" series, we get to do something the early church celebrated as the biggest event in the life of a church. We’re here to baptize and to welcome 6 new members into our church family, and to remember that all of us are called to follow Jesus wherever He leads. This is more than a ceremony—it’s a reaffirmation that we are all God’s children. It is a joyful witness, and a bold step of faith. So whether you’ve been part of Cheney UMC for decades, or you’re dipping your toes into our community for the first time, we’re glad you’ve joined us, whether in person or by live-stream. Let’s celebrate God’s love together!!

On Sunday, May 17, we arrive at Week 5 of our series “Embracing an Adverbial Faith,” with a powerful invitation: not just to lead but to lead courageously. Because let’s be honest, leadership isn’t always comfortable. It means stepping forward when it would be easier to step back. It means trusting God even when the path ahead feels uncertain. Here’s the good news: we don’t lead alone. God goes with us. And when God is with us, courage isn’t something we have to manufacture, it’s something we receive. Today, we explore what it means to lead with bold faith, steady hearts, and trust in the One who calls us forward.

With this service, we arrive at Week 4 of our series “Serve Joyfully.” And this week shifts something important. We’re not just talking about joy for the sake of joy. Joy is the how but service is the what. And suddenly… that feels a bit more real. Maybe even a bit heavier. Because serving isn’t always easy. It takes effort. It takes intention. Sometimes it even feels like a burden. But what if joy isn’t something we feel before we serve…
What if it’s something we discover in the serving? We explore what it means to not just be joyful people but to become people who serve joyfully.
