Praying for all affected in Panama. So grateful to be part of our larger connection.

In response to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Panama on Oct. 9, UMCOR has awarded solidarity grants to two partners in the region — Methodist Church of Panama (MCCA Panama-Costa Rica District) and Iglesia Evangelica Metodista de Panama (IEMPA).

These funds will support the relief efforts of the MCCA and IEMPA as they provide access to potable water, non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, basic medicines and first aid materials, blankets, clothing, sleeping mats, emergency shelter materials and more to affected families.

As impacted communities begin recovery and reconstruction efforts, UMCOR will remain in communication with these and other partners, ready to provide additional support as needed.

Here’s what our sister conference and her churches need help with. Praying for all affected by Isaias.

Last weekend, Hurricane Isaias made landfall as a powerful Category 2 storm, leaving a trail of destruction across the Southeast.

Hundreds of thousands of people across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina have been impacted by this storm, experiencing home and property damage, extended power outages, and disruptions to key community infrastructure and daily life.

Before landfall, United Methodists in the Alabama-West Florida Conference prepared to provide immediate relief, and they are now quickly providing aid to those in need through the distribution of food, water, and UMCOR relief supplies, debris removal, roof tarping, and more. A solidarity grant from UMCOR is bolstering this work, ensuring relief is offered to as many people as possible.

As long-term needs across the region become clear, UMCOR will remain in close communication with United Methodist leaders in the affected annual conferences, ready to walk the road to recovery alongside those in need.

Church family and friends, this young person disappeared not far from us. Please keep your eyes on the lookout for them.

UPDATE (10/6/26): Nova Carter has been found safe.

Please be on the lookout for Nova Carter. The 14-year-old was last seen in the 4800 block of Hal Drive Saturday (10/3/26) afternoon. He's described as a white male, 5'8" with brown eyes and hair dyed red. He has ear piercings, a septum piercing, and two lip piercings. Nova was last seen wearing a black Lil Wayne shirt and black pants. If you have any information on Nova's whereabouts, call (423) 698-2525 (tel:(423)%20698-2525).
