Worship and Fellowship events:
Anniversary photos/scrap book: We want to put together a slide show of digital pictures and scrap books for physical pictures for our 75th anniversary! If you have any digital pictures from GLC, please send them to me (please also let me know what they are and when they are from). If you have physical pictures, please send them to Janie. ALSO: Janie needs help compiling and organizing the photos. If you can help in any way, please let her know! I am also attaching our invitation flier; please share! Stay tuned for the potluck sign-up sheet!
Spiritual Care Training: Deacon Aimee Elles from the synod will be leading a two-part training session on spiritual care. This course is designed to equip and empower lay leaders to accompany others with Christ’s compassion and presence. Grounded in our shared baptismal call, this course will help participants deepen their understanding of their own authority to provide meaningful care for their neighbors. We will also explore the importance of healthy boundaries and confidentiality, and discuss how to foster a caring congregation supported by effective, sustainable systems.
Contact Deacon Aimee Elles with any questions. [email protected]

We have many opportunities for ministry!
Food Pantry: This is an on-gong ministry, and we always need donations! Items that go especially quickly are meal items (spaghetti and sauce, SpaghettiOs/ravioli, Vienna sausage, canned beans, rice, etc.) Anything with a pop-top is especially appreciated! However, we need it all, even vegetables, too! Thank you for your generosity!
Related: Paul is organizing a group to go into the neighborhood and put out fliers and bags for a neighborhood food drive, and then collecting them and sorting them at church. If you are interested in helping out with this outreach, please let us know! (We’re waiting for cooler weather!)
Rowley School Donations: Thank you SO much for your generosity in donating school supplies, snacks, and drinks for Rowley! They were so appreciative!! They asked, if possible to please collect some hygiene products for them – deodorant, toothbrushes/toothpaste, feminine products, chap stick. We’ll collect them through September. Thank you!
Noisy Offering/Disaster Response: Thank you for your generosity for our noise offerings! A special shout out to Donna who is helping Janie “roll” the coins for deposit! This offering will be for our disaster response, and if it is not needed, we will give a gift to the Footprint Project to go toward other solar battery hubs! As soon as I get a final total, I will share it with you! Thank you!
Glass Half Full recycling: Their facility is off Paris Rd. by the Sheriff’s Dept., and we can recycle our glass there!
Glass Half Full takes the glass donations and turns it into sand for sandbags during hurricane season and sand for coastal restoration! It’s a win-win! If you are unable to bring your glass to the Glass Half Full drop site, you can bring it to church, and we’ll drop it off. Thanks!
Bottle Cap Recycling: While we are finished collecting bottle caps for our friend in the Sheriff’s Dept. for the memorial bench, he is still collecting them for other projects! He needs bottle caps with a recycle code of 2. 4, or 5 in the recycle triangle. This includes not only bottle caps from drinks but also the caps from liquid laundry detergent. NOTE: please take out the rubber ring before dropping them off. We will continue to collect them until I hear otherwise! Thank you!
Possible aluminum can recycling: We are working with Keep St. Bernard beautiful to be a location for people to drop off their aluminum cans for recycling! Stay tuned for more updates.
Stay tuned for Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas ministry opportunities! It will be here before you know it!
Thank you for your generosity!!
Devotions: A good online daily devotion that I subscribe to can be found on https://www.luthersem.edu/godpause/ Another good source if you want to do Bible study is https://bibleproject.com/ They have lessons on all kinds of Biblical topics! If you have a devotion that you would like to share, please let me know!
Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season Hurricane Prep:
Ok, we know the drill:
1. I am attaching the “72 Hour Lutheran” handout, to help you prepare to take care of yourself for at least 72 hours. I am also including the St. Bernard Emergency Preparedness website: https://www.sbpg.net/165/Homeland-Security-Emergency-Preparedness which has a lot of good information. The state website is : www.getagameplan.org
2. Related, if you or someone you know needs help evacuating during a storm, please register on the St. Bernard Emergency Preparedness website NOW, before there is a need.
3. Please check the directory, to make sure we have the correct information to reach out to you, especially email!
4. Please listen to trusted sources for information about the storm, including major TV radio stations or local government Facebook or websites. There is a lot of bad information that goes out on social media – make sure you know and trust the source.
5. No heroic measures – please follow official statements. If they say hunker down, make sure you’re prepared. If they say evacuate, go! GLC will follow official statements, and if necessary, cancel worship and just have video recorded worship.
6. Very Important: In case of emergency, the ways we will reach out to everyone will be email and Facebook. We cannot promise that the phones will be working during an emergency.
7. Most Important – Pray!
Thank you for your gifts for God’s mission! With all our different ministries, we are touching lives and making a difference! So, thank you for your generosity and faithfulness!!!
ONLINE GIVING: We have online giving set up! You can give your gifts to God’s mission electronically using a PayPal account or your credit/debit card. Just go to our website, www.gethsemane-lutheran.org , and on the Home page there is a link that says Donate. Just follow the directions from there! THANK YOU!
Venmo: We have Venmo! In addition to online giving through PayPal, you can also give digitally through Venmo. On your Venmo app, search for We will be listed under charities. Thank you!
Thrivent Choice Dollars: For those of you who have a Thrivent account, you can designate where Thrivent Choice Dollars can go. There are many good ministries from which to choose, including us 😊 ! Just follow the directions on your Thrivent account.
Walmart/Spark Good: GLC gets donations from Walmart! By using this program, you can round up the change from a Walmart.com transaction, and GLC will receive those funds! Here’s the website to set it up: https://www.walmart.com/sparkgood
The funds will reach us approximately 30 days after purchase. There are no handling fees nor deductions by the handling company. If you have trouble setting it up, please ask either Janie or me, and we’ll be happy to help!
These are easy ways to help support ministries!
See you in church!
+peace and joy,
Pr. Sandra
Two ways to support favorite causes – 1) donate change by rounding up your purchase at checkout on Walmart.com 2) donate products from a nonprofit’s registry & have the items shipped straight to them.
